US intelligence Believes Iran And Its Proxies Are Seeking To Avoid A Wider War With Israel

CNN: US intelligence currently assesses Iran and its proxies are seeking to avoid a wider war with Israel

The US intelligence community believes – for now – that Iran and its proxies are calibrating their response to Israel’s military intervention in Gaza to avoid direct conflict with Israel or the US while still exacting costs on its adversaries.

But the US is also keenly aware that Iran does not maintain perfect control of its umbrella of proxies – in particular over Lebanese Hezbollah, the largest and most capable of the various groups. Hezbollah is an ally of Hamas, the group that attacked Israel on October 7, and has long positioned itself as fighting against Israel. US officials are deeply concerned that the group’s internal politics may cause Hezbollah to escalate simmering tensions.

The US also does not always have perfect visibility into the communications between Iran and its various proxies, according to sources familiar with US intelligence in the region.

WNU Editor: We shall see if Iran is committed to avoiding a wider war with Israel. But I am skeptical. I do not see any de-escalation in the Israel - Hamas war, and tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continues to remain high. The Houthis in Yemen have already declared war against Israel. It will not take much to spark this into a major regional war.

  1. No, the Iranians want to be blown to kingdom come.

you are usually spot on, but this one...no agreement at all. Any way they are not ready. They need the Bomb.

  2. Iran doesn't have the bomb yet. Good time to make them go away permanently

  3. Nobody wants an "unleash the hounds" non-Nuclear war with the U.S. but some governments might just be dumb enough. I am sure North Korea and Iran might be that dumb. we will see in time.

I wonder if Iran is seeing that the "rise of Islam in support of Hamas" is limited to large protests with flags and slogans and nobody is going to help them if we unleash on them.

    1. They probably recall when they hit the u.s bases with ballistic missiles, causing dozens of serious concussion injuries and Trump copied Obama play ool and redefined his red lines.

  4. Iran cannot be invaded. Its too big the geography is too difficult and the population too large. An invasion would require every last reservist. It would be costlier than anything since Vietnam. It would break the Army as a fighting force no matter what happens. Most impostantly it would give Taiwan to China for free.On the other hand officials might not be thinking straight anymore or care about how the forces are already streched thin.A bombing campaign is survivable for Iran.An invasion would be prohibitive for the US.Especially now.But again its possible nobody is thinking straight anymore and realising what this means globally.

  6. Iran is easy to invade.

Invade, break up the existing corrupt power structure and leave within weeks. No drain on blood and gold.

Every last asshole on earth will take note.

It has not been tried before.

A reinvasion would be easier; the opposition squishier.

After the 1st or second time there is no way the mullahs are getting that back. They might have to apply for asylum in North Korea, China , Kazan or deepest darkest Brooklyn.

  7. I don't think 339 has ever actually looked at a map of Iran and compared the various locations. Its more than twice as big as Ukraine with its capital far to the north in other words too far for a quick in and out. This would be the most difficult operation for the US in more than 50 years.

  8. 3:39 PM- They'd be robbed or killed by the gangs in Brooklyn! Safer in China.

  9. Gov. Newsom Says California Will Defy Fed Gov to Ally With China

Should not the government take care of problems at home, first?

There are many ways to revolt besides taking legions and marching on Rome or withholding some are all taxes. there are modern twists on such as declaring yourself a sanctuary city or state or draining national coffers because you encourage a welfare class of illegals.

Lots of things to tend to before Iran.
