In Remote Baluchistan, Pakistan Fights A Shadowy War -- McClatchy News

QUETTA, Pakistan — The family of Jalil Reki learned from television news that his body had been found, more than two years after the political activist was allegedly abducted by Pakistani security officials.

Reki's body bore signs of severe torture, according to his father, Qadeer Baloch, including broken wrists and knees and burn marks. He was killed by several shots through the back of the head.

My Comment: This is one of those situation in which Pakistan can be pressured (or threatened) that if they continue to support and supply weapons to the conflicts in Kashmir and Afghanistan .... the separatist movement in Baluchistan will receive the same support. Fortunately for Pakistan .... that is not the policy of the U.S. and as far as I can tell .... India's.

CHAMALANG, Pakistan (AP) -- With every bag of coal Madad Khan dumps into trucks at this mine reopened with the army's help, Pakistan hopes it is moving closer to quelling a 60-year-old nationalist insurgency in this restive southwest province where Afghan Taliban leaders are rumored to hide.

Echoing U.S. counterinsurgency strategy in neighboring Afghanistan, the army has peppered Baluchistan with dozens of development projects to win hearts and minds, an effort officials say has accelerated in recent months alongside a push by the federal government to address local grievances.

My Comment: The people in this region want autonomy .... and some want outright independence. More bread and circuses is not going to dampen this insurgency.

TURBAT, Pakistan — Three local political leaders were seized from a small legal office here in April, handcuffed, blindfolded and hustled into a waiting pickup truck in front of their lawyer and neighboring shopkeepers. Their bodies, riddled with bullets and badly decomposed in the scorching heat, were found in a date palm grove five days later.

Local residents are convinced that the killings were the work of the Pakistani intelligence agencies, and the deaths have provided a new spark for revolt across Baluchistan, a vast and restless province in Pakistan’s southwest where the government faces yet another insurgency.

My Comment: This low level insurgency has been going on for years in this part of Pakistan .... where the killing of soldiers has been occurring on a regular basis. But in typical Pakistan ISIS/Army fashion .... in retaliation they are making a bad situation even worse.
