Advanced Weapons Could Potentially Be Deployed Against U.S.

China is expected to export a new radar-evading fighter jet as well as other advanced weapons systems in a move that could potentially see them deployed against the U.S. or its allies, a senior Pentagon official said Tuesday.

Frank Kendall, the Pentagon's procurement chief, also told a congressional hearing that the technology gap between U.S. and Chinese weapons was set to continue narrowing as the countries' military spending moved in opposite directions.

"In general, we would expect the Chinese to have export versions of the equipment that they build," said Mr. Kendall told the House Armed Services Committee.

My Comment: China is already the world's fifth-largest arms exporter .... selling advanced weapons is a natural progression on what China is already doing.

Update: Pakistan is China's biggest customer for it's weapon systems.

China Announces That It's Military Can Now Strike Anywhere And Anyone In The Western Pacific

China announced last week that its army now has the capability to strike anywhere in the Western Pacific, including Japan, Southeast Asia and Australia.

The announcement was made by the Communist Party-run Global Times newspaper on Sept. 25, highlighting the completion of the second phase of the Beidou satellite positioning and weapons guidance system.

“Right now, the coverage of our Beidou second-phase operation includes the entire Western Pacific and the key nations in the region,” the Global Times reported. “All areas stretching from the First Island Chain to the Second Island Chain are under the cover of China’s satellite signals, which makes China capable of launching precision strikes against any nation in the region.”

My Comment: The Chinese are bluntly telling the U.S. and it's Asian allies that they are not intimidated by their alliances and strategic partnerships .... and are using their military and it's capabilities to stress their point.

Chinese Signaling for Conflict: A Predictive Pattern -- Wendell Minnick, Defense News

TAIPEI — As things heat up in the East China Sea over the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands, it might be wise to know the signals China uses to warn of war and how Beijing handles crisis management.

China Release It's 'White Paper' On National Security

Beijing Lays Out Security Priorities In Defence White Paper -- South China Morning Post

Defence white paper vows a stronger military, criticises US pivot to Asia-Pacific, and accuses Japan of 'making trouble' over Diaoyu Islands.

China yesterday issued its eighth defence white paper in 15 years, and warned that the country faces "multiple and complicated" security threats, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Ministry of National Defence document pledged to build a strong military "commensurate with China's international standing, and to meet the needs of its security and development interests".

It also made veiled criticism of America's so-called pivot to Asia-Pacific, implying that Washington's rebalancing of its military forces towards the region had worsened tensions.

"Some countries are strengthening their Asia-Pacific military alliances and expanding their military presence in the region, frequently making the situation there more tense," it said, without naming any state.

Chinese Generals Call For War With Just About Everyone -- Intercepts/Defense News

Veteran journalist and writer David Lague, now with Reuters in Hong Kong, has written in great detail in a new report, China’s Military Hawks Take The Offensive, that Chinese senior military officers are taking to expressing their calls for war against regional neighbors to the airwaves of Chinese Tv and radio, Internet blogs, and public speeches.

Lague looks at the recent speech by Chinese Lt. General Ren Haiquan at an October gathering of international military officers at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. The speech began nice enough, but quickly degenerated into a rant against Japan’s control of the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands. Japanese officers, including Army Lt. General Yoshiaki Nakagawa, left immediately after the speech.

My Comment: This makes me wonder if the characters for Dr. Strangelove should have been Chinese.

Seriously .... for years I was of the opinion that China will not go to war and/or use it's military to enforce it's border claims. To do so would result in blow-back on every level .... political, economic, and military (in the form of a massive arms buildup in Asia).

But I will admit that there has been a shift in China's public announcements .... and in terms of the public altitude .... something that I noticed on my last visit to China a few months ago .... I was shocked to see how open many Chinese have become to using military force in asserting their claims in the Asian region. There is no fear .... and what is worse .... no concern at all on what would be the U.S. reaction to a possible aggressive China policy (and action) in Asia. Will China use it's military to enforce it's claims .... I still doubt that. But the groundwork is being laid where they are now actually thinking about it. In short .... they are now thinking of the unthinkable.

My Comment: The US has also been looking at developing such a weapon system .... but for anti-terrorism purposes. The problem with such a system is that when used the other side will not be able to determine if it is carrying a nuclear payload .... or a conventional one. All countries will assume the worse, and will take counter measures immediately.

If the Chinese are developing such a capability .... and it clearly appears that they are .... they are raising the nuclear threat level to a very dangerous point.

The recent quote we posted on by the Seventh Fleet commander that “the purpose of the Navy is not to fight” comes at an interesting time with saber rattling from North Korea, rampant piracy in the Indian Ocean, and news that China is deploying a new carrier killing anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM). Obviously someone is trying to fight us, and I hope our naval leaders have no plans to sit on the sidelines, come what may. We think it likely that some of our sailors still feel as the great John Paul Jones, who only sought “a fast ship…to go in harm’s way”.

Chinese Build Secret Nuclear Submarine Base

China has secretly built a major underground nuclear submarine base that could threaten Asian countries and challenge American power in the region, it can be disclosed.

Satellite imagery, passed to The Daily Telegraph, shows that a substantial harbour has been built which could house a score of nuclear ballistic missile submarines and a host of aircraft carriers.
