Khamma Press: Karzai accuses US of aiding the ISIS militants in Afghanistan

The former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has accused the US forces in Afghanistan for aiding the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group.

In an interview with the Russia Today and in response to a question whether there was any suspicion that the US was aiding ISIS group, Karzai said “I have more than suspicions.”

However, he said reports regarding the alleged support to ISIS by the US forces are still unconfirmed.

Karzai said he had heard reports, albeit unconfirmed, that the IS was being supplied with helicopters.

The former President further added “How unmarked non-military colour helicopters supply these people, not only in one part of the country but in many regions.”

“And this is a daily occurrence,” he said, claiming that the terror group has been able to spread its tentacles in the country just under the nose of the US forces and the CIA.

KABUL, Afghanistan — The United States’ bombing of an Islamic State cave complex in Afghanistan has stirred up political trouble for the Afghan government, as former President Hamid Karzai on Saturday called his successor “a traitor” and declared that he wanted the Americans gone from the country.

In an interview with The New York Times, hours after he said he intended to work toward “ousting the U.S.,” a fuming Mr. Karzai said there was no justification for the United States to drop its most powerful conventional bomb in Afghanistan. The weapon, the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, is referred to as the “mother of all bombs.”

He accused the American military of using the presence of Islamic State militants to turn his country into a laboratory for testing its weapons.

Afghanistan's Karzai Criticizes US, Pakistan In Farewell Speech -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Outgoing President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday blamed the United States for Afghanistan's long war in a final swipe at the country that helped bring him to power 13 years ago but towards which he has become increasingly bitter.

His farewell speech came days ahead of the swearing in of a new president, Ashraf Ghani, after months of turmoil over a disputed election that ended in a power-sharing deal, yet to be tested, with rival Abdullah Abdullah who will fill the role of chief executive.

Karzai blamed both the United States and neighboring Pakistan for the continuing war with the Taliban-led insurgency and warned the new government to be "extra cautious in relations with the U.S. and the West".

Afghan President Fumes At Prisoner Deal Made Behind His Back: Source -- Reuters

(Reuters) - The Afghan president is angry at being kept in the dark over a deal to free five Taliban leaders in exchange for a captured U.S. soldier, and accuses Washington of failing to back a peace plan for the war-torn country, a senior source said on Monday.

The five prisoners were flown to Qatar on Sunday as part of a secret agreement to release Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, who left Afghanistan for Germany on the same day.

The only known U.S. prisoner of war in Afghanistan, Bergdahl had been held captive for five years.

"The president is now even more distrustful of U.S. intentions in the country," said the source close to President Hamid Karzai's palace in Kabul, who declined to be identified.

President overrules cabinet opposition to target commanders praised for anti-Taliban operations in Kabul and beyond

Afghanistan's government has suspended the three police special forces commanders responsible for securing the capital during crucial presidential elections, and plans to try them in a court martial for making illegal detentions and desecrating a mosque.

The three men have also been accused of collaborating with US and British commandos to serve foreign rather than Afghan aims, although they will not be tried as spies, according to an official source with first-hand knowledge of events.

Since they were removed from their positions in late April, all special operations raids by police commandos have been suspended, raising questions about security in Kabul as insurgents arrive from safe havens in Pakistan and the country prepares for the annual "fighting season".

My Comment: Afghanistan's special forces have been incredibly successful in their war against Al Qaeda and Taliban forces .... this is why this targeting of it's top commanders by President Karzai ... and at the end of his Presidential term .... looks strange and bewildering. My guess is that Karzai does not care anymore .... he wants to put his allies in positions of power and he wants to stick it to the incoming administration by giving them a security problem that I am sure that the Taliban will exploit. Either way .... this will be one of his last acts as Afghanistan's President .... and the sooner he is gone the better.

Karzai Says Afghan War Not Fought In His Country's Interest: Report -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Expressing "extreme anger" toward the U.S. government, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said in an interview with the Washington Post that the war in Afghanistan was not fought with his country's interests in mind.

"Afghans died in a war that's not ours,' Karzai said in the interview published on Sunday, just a month before an election to pick his successor.

He was quoted as saying he was certain the 12-year-old war, America's longest and launched after the attacks of September 11, 2001, was "for the U.S. security and for the Western interest."

Karzai's refusal to sign a security deal with Washington that would permit foreign troops to stay in Afghanistan beyond this year has frustrated the White House, and President Barack Obama has told the Pentagon to prepare for the possibility that no U.S. troops will be left in Afghanistan after 2014.

Thus declared Afghan President Hamid Karzai to a council of his country’s tribal elders, the loya jirga. You have to hand it to him: No client regime before has shown such open disregard for its patron and protector. In its engagements in what used to be called the third world, the U.S. had the misfortune of riding with a bunch of unsavory rulers -- Fulgencio Batista of Cuba, Anastasio Somoza of Nicaragua, Ngo Dinh Diem of South Vietnam, Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines and so on.

During the Cold War, we cornered ourselves. It was either communism or these strongmen. None, I dare say, spoke with such open contempt of their American patrons as Karzai has.

KABUL, Afghanistan — The C.I.A.’s station chief here met with President Hamid Karzai on Saturday, and the Afghan leader said he had been assured the agency would continue dropping off stacks of cash at his office despite a storm of criticism that has erupted since the payments were disclosed.

The C.I.A. money, Mr. Karzai told reporters, was “an easy source of petty cash,” and he suggested that some of it was used to pay off warlords and power brokers.

The use of the C.I.A. cash to pay those people has prompted criticism from many Afghans and some American and European officials who complain that the agency, in its quest to maintain access and influence at the presidential palace, financed what is essentially a presidential slush fund. The practice, the officials say, effectively undercut a pillar of the American war strategy: the building of a clean and credible Afghan government.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai Monday acknowledged that his office has been receiving money from the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency over the past 10 years, dismissing the monthly cash payments as a "small amount."

Mr. Karzai addressed the issue after the New York Times reported on Sunday that the CIA has made tens of millions of dollars in secret payments, often cash packed in shopping bags, as it sought to maintain influence over Afghanistan's mercurial leader.

"Yes, the office of the national security has been receiving support from the United States for the past 10 years," Mr. Karzai told reporters at a news briefing in Helsinki, Finland, responding to a question whether he has received CIA cash. "Monthly. Not a big amount. A small amount which has been used for various purposes."

Karzai's Accusations Spark Afghan Pushback -- Wall Street Journal

KABUL—Afghan politicians pushed back against President Hamid Karzai's accusations of U.S. collusion with the Taliban, saying that such rhetoric is irresponsible and could endanger critical Western support.

Twenty Afghan political parties and two coalitions, reflecting much of the country's political spectrum outside the insurgency, said in a joint statement on Wednesday that Mr. Karzai's allegations "do not represent the views of the people of Afghanistan toward their international friends."

"The president's remarks are part of a series of deliberate actions that push Afghanistan toward disaster," the parties said. "Creating such provocations against the international community is an escape from national responsibilities, and a failed attempt to divert public opinion from genuine issues."

They claim they burned Korans by mistake, but really those were “Satanic acts that will never be forgiven by apologies.”

Such harsh talk may sound as if it comes from the Taliban, but those are all remarks either made personally by the United States’ increasingly hostile ally here, President Hamid Karzai, or issued by his office in recent days and weeks.

Why Karzai Is Fed Up With The U.S. Mission In Afghanistan -- Washington Post

For a decade, American troops have fought and died defending Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s government. On Thursday, with the U.S. defense secretary looking on from Kabul, Karzai demanded that those troops stop fighting for him.

“Afghanistan is ready right now,” Karzai said in a statement, “to take all security responsibilities completely.”

My Comment: The article is focused on the wrong person(s). The real focus should be on the American people and their loss of patience with people like Karzai and the country that he rules. While Afghan President Karzai may feel confident that his military can now confront the Taliban .... I say lets put it test, and speed up our withdrawal from that god forsaken country.
