Bloomberg: Laptop Ban May Expand to All International Flights, Kelly Says

* U.S. Homeland secretary says terrorists ‘obsessed’ on planes
* Carry-on bags will probably get more scrutiny as well

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said he may ban laptop computers in the cabins of all international flights into and out of the U.S. amid continuing terrorist threats to bring down airplanes, but that a final decision hadn’t been made.

“That’s really the thing that they’re obsessed with, the terrorists: the idea of knocking down an airplane in flight, particularly if it’s a U.S. carrier, particularly if it’s full of mostly U.S. folks,” Kelly said on “Fox News Sunday.”

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly: 'The Terror Threat Is Worse Than Most Realize'

The Hill: DHS chief: If you knew what I knew about terror, you’d ‘never leave the house’

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Friday said the terror threat is worse than most realize, saying some people would "never leave the house" if they knew the truth.

“I was telling [Fox host] Steve [Doocy] on the way in here, if he knew what I knew about terrorism, he’d never leave the house in the morning,” Kelly said on “Fox & Friends.”

He noted there were four major terror attacks in the last week — in England, Egypt, the Philippines and Indonesia — "by generally the same groups."

President Trump’s Defense and Homeland Security Secretaries Have Been Sworn In

New York Times: Senate Confirms Mattis at Defense and Kelly for Homeland Security

WASHINGTON — Just hours after President Trump was sworn into office, the Senate on Friday confirmed two nominees for critical national security positions, approving James N. Mattis as defense secretary and John F. Kelly as homeland security secretary.

Republicans had hoped to approve far more than two nominees on Mr. Trump’s first day in office, but that process has been delayed in part because several of the nominees have been slow in filing ethics disclosures, prompting protests by Senate Democrats.

While Republicans sought to confirm a third national security nominee on Friday, Representative Mike Pompeo of Kansas, the president’s choice to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, Democrats managed to delay his approval until Monday, when he is expected to receive a vote after some debate.
