The fiancee of Julian Assange has accused UK authorities of playing the role of 'executioner' after the WikiLeaks founder suffered a stroke in Belmarsh prison. 

Stella Moris, 38, said the 50-year-old was left with a drooping right eyelid, memory problems and signs of neurological damage after the stroke in October. 

Campaigners believe the incident was triggered by the stress of the ongoing High Court battle over whether or not he should be extradited to the US.

ABC News (Australia): US President Joe Biden's administration won't give up plans to seek extradition of WikiLeaks' Julian Assange 

United States President Joe Biden's administration won't give up on plans to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange from the United Kingdom to face hacking conspiracy charges, the US Justice Department said. 

Justice Department spokesman Marc Raimondi said the US Government would continue to challenge a British judge's ruling last month that Assange should not be extradited to the United States because of the risk he would commit suicide.

CNN: Exclusive: Security reports reveal how Assange turned an embassy into a command post for election meddling

Atlanta (CNN)New documents obtained exclusively by CNN reveal that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange received in-person deliveries, potentially of hacked materials related to the 2016 US election, during a series of suspicious meetings at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

The documents build on the possibility, raised by special counsel Robert Mueller in his report on Russian meddling, that couriers brought hacked files to Assange at the embassy.

The surveillance reports also describe how Assange turned the embassy into a command center and orchestrated a series of damaging disclosures that rocked the 2016 presidential campaign in the United States.

Justice Department officials sent the official request on Thursday, meeting a 60-day deadline after the WikiLeaks founder was arrested on April 11, government sources told the Washington Post.

Assange is accused of working with former US army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning in 'unlawfully obtaining and disclosing classified documents related to the national defense'.

The decision also means that Assange will not face punishment for publishing one of the CIA’s most potent arsenals of digital code used to hack devices, dubbed Vault 7. The leak — one of the most devastating in CIA history — not only essentially rendered those tools useless for the CIA, it gave foreign spies and rogue hackers access to them.

WNU Editor: There is no need to add these additional charges. There are currently multiple charges against him that will put him in prison (if convicted) for a very long time .... Assange hit with 17 new charges, including Espionage Act violations (The Hill). As to what is my take on this entire affair. If a U.S. journalist and/or news organization did what he did, they would not be facing these charges. But in the case of Wikileaks and Julian Assange specifically, the decision has been made that this is not an organization that strives to publish truthful information on government abuse,  but instead it and its founder are actively involved in espionage against the U.S.. IMHO this is a slippery slope, and all journalists should be aware on where this is heading. The legal precedent it could set will impact on how news organizations cover the government will be reported.

Julian Assange has been charged in the US with 17 violations of the Espionage Act for conspiring with Chelsea Manning.

A federal grand jury returned the indictment against him in Virginia on Thursday afternoon. Now, the 47-year-old WikiLeaks founder faces 170 years behind bars.

Seventeen of the 18 charges are violations of the Espionage Act.

They are; one count of conspiracy to receive national defense information, eight counts of obtaining national defense information, eight counts of disclosure of national defense information.

ABC News Online: Julian Assange has rape investigation against him reopened by Swedish prosecutors

Swedish prosecutors have announced they are reopening an investigation into a rape allegation against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

The investigation was requested by lawyers for a Swedish woman who alleges Assange raped her in 2010.

Assange, who denies the allegations, previously avoided extradition to Sweden after seeking refuge at the Ecuadorean embassy in London for seven years.

Sweden's deputy director of public prosecutions, Eva-Marie Persson, told reporters through a translator that "there is still a probable cause to suspect that Assange committed a rape".

Julian Assange has been arrested by British police today after being hauled out of the Ecuadorian embassy in London following an extradition request by the US.

The Wikileaks founder, sporting a scruffy beard and unkempt hair, was dragged out of the building head-first in handcuffs by a group of seven men as his stunned supporters watched on as he screamed out 'the UK must resist'.

Shortly after, British authorities confirmed that the whistleblower was being held on behalf of the US authorities, as well as for breaching bail conditions following allegations of rape in Sweden.

It comes after Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno dramatically withdrew Assange's asylum status following his 'discourteous and aggressive behaviour' in continuing to work with WikiLeaks while housed at the embassy.

A Twitter account for WikiLeaks, the document trove website website founded by Julian Assange, said Thursday that Assange will be ousted from his sanctuary at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London within "hours to days."

The website tweeted Thursday claiming that a senior source with Ecuador's State Department had informed WikiLeaks that Assange would be removed from the embassy and subject to arrest by British authorities.

Reuters: Ecuador's Moreno says Wikileaks' Assange can leave embassy if he wants

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuadorean President Lenin Moreno said on Thursday that there was a “path” for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to leave the South American country’s London embassy, where he has lived for six years under asylum, if he so chooses.

Assange has claimed that Ecuador is seeking to end his asylum and hand him over to the United States, where prosecutors are preparing to pursue a criminal case against him. Wikileaks has released thousands of classified U.S. military documents, among other disclosures.

“There is a path for Mr. Assange to take the decision to exit into near freedom,” Moreno said in a local radio interview.

The Justice Department is considering bringing charges against Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange amid worsening relations with the country that granted him political asylum, it has emerged.

Assange has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012, fearing he will be extradited to the United States for questioning over the activities of WikiLeaks if he leaves.

However last month, Ecuador's foreign minister said the country no longer planned to intervene on Assange's behalf in discussions with the British government about his asylum status and case.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange argued Monday that Ecuador's government is trying to force him out of that country's embassy in London with the goal of handing him over to the United States.

Assange is seeking a court injunction to force the Quito government to rescind recently imposed rules that require the Australian ex-hacker to pay for his doctor visits, phone calls, and WiFi connection. The new rules also require Assange to clean up after his pet cat, a matter that has long been a source of tension between him and his hosts.

Assange's legal team is arguing that their client is entitled to medical care and Internet access under the terms of his asylum.

Russian diplomats held secret talks in London last year with people close to Julian Assange to assess whether they could help him flee the UK, the Guardian has learned.

A tentative plan was devised that would have seen the WikiLeaks founder smuggled out of Ecuador’s London embassy in a diplomatic vehicle and transported to another country.

LONDON — For Julian Assange, the world’s most famous whistleblower, freedom could be dangerous.

As his residency at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London enters its seventh year, the self-styled cyber revolutionary – WikiLeaks’ founder and controversial publisher of some of the world’s most closely guarded official secrets – is facing a pair of converging crises that have left his allies fearing for his wellbeing and his safety.

Inside the embassy, he is living an increasingly secluded existence, having been stripped of his phones, computers and visitor privileges after running afoul of the very government that gave him asylum. Outside the embassy, he is embroiled in the global political scandal surrounding Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election, with questions about his role in that drama being raised by friends and foes alike.

In more ways than one, the very walls protecting Assange also appear to be closing in.

France 24: Ecuador, Britain in talks over Assange fate: Ecuadorian president

MADRID (AFP) - Ecuador is in talks with Britain over the fate of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been holed up at Ecuador's embassy in London since 2012 when he was granted political asylum, the country's president said in an interview published Sunday.

"The issue of Mr. Assange is being treated with the British government and I understand that we have already established contact with Mr. Assange's lawyers so we can find a way out," Ecuador President Lenin Moreno told top-selling Spanish daily newspaper El Pais.

"Mr. Assange has been in this situation for over five years and we have to find a way out for him. A way out that defends his rights, mainly his right to life, and which at the same time can give Ecuador the possibility to not have what, without a doubt, represents a problem for our country."

WNU Editor: My gut is telling me that the Ecuadorian government is trying to arrange safe passage for Julian Assange to a safe country (probably Iceland). But this is nothing new, and the U.K. government has been insistent in the past that once he steps out of the embassy he will be arrested because of his legal problems with other countries .... notably with the U.S.. But Ecuador wants Julian Assange gone, and it looks like for Julian Assange, his time is running out.

RT: Ecuador to hand over Assange to UK ‘in coming weeks or days,’ own sources tell RT's editor-in chief

Ecuador is ready to hand over the WikiLeaks founder to the UK in “coming weeks or even days,” RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan said citing her own sources, as prospects of his eviction from the embassy are back in the media.

“My sources tell [Julian] Assange will be handed over to Britain in the coming weeks or even days,” Simonyan wrote in a recent tweet which was reposted by WikiLeaks. “Like never before, I wish my sources were wrong,” she continued.

Simonyan's message comes, as speculations Ecuador is in talks with the UK over the future of Assange are back again in British press. Earlier this week, the Times reported Britain is locked in top-tier discussions with the Ecuadorians in a bid to remove Assange from their London embassy.

Britain is in secret talks with Ecuador to evict Wikileaks founder Julian Assange from its embassy in London.

Senior foreign officials, believed to include the Foreign Office minister Sir Alan Duncan, are in talks to try and decide Mr Assange's future.

He has been living at the embassy in Knightsbridge, in London, since June 2012 and is fearful he will be extradited to the United States if he leaves.

The top-level discussions come just weeks before a UK visit by new Ecuador President Lenin Moreno who has previously called Assange a 'hacker' and a 'stone in the shoe', according to The Sunday Times.

The Guardian: Ecuador's president says Julian Assange can stay in embassy 'with conditions'

Assange must follow rules and avoid talking politics on Twitter – otherwise Lenín Moreno says he will ‘take a decision’

Lenín Moreno, the president of Ecuador, has said Julian Assange’s asylum status in the country’s London embassy is not under threat – provided he complies with the conditions of his stay and avoids voicing his political opinions on Twitter.

However, in an interview with Deutsche Welle on Wednesday, Moreno said his government would “take a decision” if Assange didn’t comply with the restrictions.

“Let’s not forget the conditions of his asylum prevent him from speaking about politics or intervening in the politics of other countries. That’s why we cut his communication,” he said. Ecuador suspended Assange’s communication’s system in March.

Julian Assange is willing to speak with congressional investigators probing Russian interference in the 2016 election, an associate to the WikiLeaks founder said on Friday.

Randy Credico, a New York-based radio host known for serving as an intermediary between Assange and long-time Trump adviser Roger Stone, said the WikiLeaks founder recently told him he’s ready to “clear this whole Russia thing up.”

“Julian Assange is at the centre of all of this, yet no one has interviewed him,” Credico told The New York Daily News. “He’s waiting. He’s been waiting all along.”

Credico said Assange didn’t tell him what information in particular he’s prepared to share with investigators.
