Express Tribune: Pakistan confirms shooting down Iranian drone

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan confirmed on Wednesday that it shot down an Iranian drone in Punjgur after it was found flying inside its territory.

The confirmation came from the foreign office a day after media reports suggested that Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down Iranian drone deep inside Pakistan airspace.

“The drone was hit by Pakistan Air Force as it was unidentified and was flying at around 3-4km inside Pakistani territory,” read a statement issued by the foreign office.

Iran and Pakistan are on a collision course as a series of issues are straining ties.

Iran and Pakistan appear to be on a collision course that will in all likelihood leave relations severely strained in the years ahead.

The most visible sign of strain in the bilateral relationship is also in many ways the least serious. Specifically, as my colleague Ankit noted, last month five Iranian border guards in Iran’s Sistan Baluchistan region were kidnapped by the Iran-based Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice). However, according to the Iranian government, they were then brought to Pakistan and are being held in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.

My Comment: The U.S. departure from the region is creating a vacuum that states like Pakistan/Iran/Saudi Arabia/India/etc. are rushing to fill in. From this perspective the geopolitical conflict over a place like Afghanistan is not ending .... if anything .... it may be starting.

QUETTA, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistani forces detained 11 Iranian Revolutionary Guards on Monday for crossing into the country days after an Iranian commander was reported saying his men should be allowed to confront terrorists in Pakistan, officials said.

The Revolutionary Guards were arrested in the Mashkhel area on the border with Iran eight days after a suicide bomber killed 42 people, including six Revolutionary Guard commanders, in Iran's southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan province.

A Sunni Muslim group Jundollah (God's soldiers), claimed responsibility for the blast.

Official Aid for Nuclear Program Claimed.

The creator of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program boasted in a recent television interview that he and other senior Pakistani officials, eager to see Iran develop nuclear weapons, years ago guided that country to a proven network of suppliers and helped advance its covert efforts.

A.Q. Khan, whom Washington considers the world's most ambitious proliferator of nuclear weapons technology, told a television interviewer in Karachi, Pakistan, that if Iran succeeds in "acquiring nuclear technology, we will be a strong bloc in the region to counter international pressure. Iran's nuclear capability will neutralize Israel's power."

My Comment: He boasts that he received the support of Pakistani Government officials to spread nuclear weapons technology to Iran. I would like to know who are those people.

This is disturbing on every level. We are giving billions in aid to a country that is supplying nuclear weapons technology to dangerous countries like Iran .... and the main scientist is gleeful about it.
