Daily Mail: Classified JFK assassination files are FINALLY released: Lee Harvey Oswald was in contact with member of KGB two months before shooting and CIA was told 'Russia was planning to pay hitman $100k to kill the president' a YEAR before he died 

* More than 1,500 files were released by the National Archives at noon on Wednesday about JFK's assassination 

* They include memos by CIA officers in the immediate aftermath of the shooting on November 23, 1963 

* One details how Lee Harvey Oswald met with a KGB agent on September 29, 1963, in Mexico City 

* The documents also included previously sealed files on Operation Mongoose, the CIA's plan to destabilize the Cuban government and remove Fidel Castro from power 

* Unsealed files from the 1975 Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Activities state that President Kennedy's brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, was part of the secret National Security Council group overseeing Mongoose 

* Not all of the files will be released; the NSA is holding some back pending further review 

* The secrecy has fueled conspiracy theories about JFK's assassination 

* The President was killed in 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald while riding in his motorcade in Dallas, Texas 

* Oswald denied shooting JFK in his interviews with police; he was killed two days later while being transported by police by a nightclub owner who shot him 

* Biden had promised to make the files public by October but he delayed, claiming COVID back logs stalled the release 

More than 1,500 previously classified JFK assassination files have today been made public, including documents about killer Lee Harvey Oswald's contact with a KGB agent two months before the shooting. 

The files were released at noon on Wednesday by the National Archives, after months of delays by Biden who had promised to make them public but then stalled, claiming COVID backlogs was the reason. 

Not all of them are now public - some are still being held back for further review by the NSA until next December, a move that has been slammed by members of Kennedy's family.

My father did not know if that claim was true, but he told me more than once when I was growing up that he was afraid on what would happen if it was true.

Washington Post: Trump plans to release JFK assassination documents despite concerns from federal agencies

President Trump announced Saturday morning that he planned to release the tens of thousands of never-before-seen documents left in the files related to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination held by the National Archives and Records Administration.

“Subject to the receipt of further information, I will be allowing, as President, the long blocked and classified JFK FILES to be opened,” Trump tweeted early Saturday.

Kennedy assassination experts have been speculating for weeks about whether Trump would disclose the documents. The 1992 Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act required that the millions of pages — many of them contained in CIA and FBI documents — be published in 25 years, by Oct. 26. Over the years, the National Archives has released most of the documents, either in full or partially redacted.

The National Archives, for the first time ever, released a list of documents related to the assassination that are still shielded from public view.

More than five decades after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, thousands of government files detailing the activities and testimony of shadowy spies, long-deceased witnesses and others with possible knowledge of the events remain shielded from public view.

The government gave a first-ever peek at what's still out there Thursday, as the National Archives released a list of the 3,063 documents that have been "fully withheld" since JFK's murder in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.

The documents listed — released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from POLITICO, other news organizations and researchers — were collected by the Assassination Records Review Board, an independent panel created by the 1992 JFK Records Act.

That same act requires that all the documents on the list be released by October 2017 unless the next president decides to keep them classified.

President Barack Obama has laid a wreath at the gravesite of John F Kennedy as part of a day of events honouring the assassinated president.

Mr Obama was joined at Arlington National Cemetery by former president Bill Clinton.

The 50th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination is on Friday.

Earlier, Mr Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest US civilian honour, to Mr Clinton and other prominent Americans.

Among this year's recipients were entertainer Oprah Winfrey, late astronaut Sally Ride and feminist Gloria Steinem.

Kennedy established a modern version of the awards but did not live to present the first medals.

My Comment: This news is nothing new .... but hearing it from Jackie Kennedy is new, and it will (unfortunately) tarnish the Kennedy mystique that we all grew up with in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and even today. Oh well .... I guess reality must set in.

Update: My brother just emailed me and was asking .... what Kennedy mystique? Sighhh .... to those who grew up in that era .... you will know what I mean.

Rare Footage Captures John F. Kennedy on His Last Night Alive -- Politics Daily

The night before he was assassinated, President John F. Kennedy stopped at the Rice Hotel in Houston to meet with local Hispanic leaders and to deliver a short speech. The president's appearance around 9 p.m. on Nov. 21, 1963, was captured by a home movie camera, and now that footage has been made public for the first time.

Roy Botello shot the 8mm film and then kept it in a drawer for 47 years, according to ABC News. Last year he donated it to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, an institution in Dallas dedicated to the JFK assassination. The museum restored the footage and has made it available online.
