Daily Mail: Xi Jinping tightens his grip on power in China with 'historic resolution' that puts him on par with Mao and makes a third term as president almost certain 

 Xi Jinping has issued a draft resolution on the Communist party's success

* The document will review China's economic military power and world presence

* It will elevate Jinping to the level of two of China's most influential and infamous leaders, 'Chairman' Mao Zedong and his successor, Deng Xiaoping 

* China removed term limits on the presidency in 2018, meaning that Xi could well remain at the apex of power in the country for the rest of his life 

Xi Jinping has tightened his grip on power in China with the passage of an 'historic resolution', exulting his leadership and all-but guaranteeing a third term in office. 

The resolution, passed by the country's Central Committee today, puts Xi on a par with Mao Zedong and enshrines his ideology as the 'essence of Chinese culture'. Xi, 68, will still have to wait until next year to find out if his apparatchiks will grant him an historic third term in power, but their approval now seems beyond doubt.

Reuters: China's Xi to cement authority, legacy in Communist Party resolution 

BEIJING, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to push through an historical resolution at a key Communist Party gathering next week, cementing his authority and legacy and strengthening his case for a precedent-breaking third term starting next year. 

A resolution on the "important achievements and historical experiences of the party's 100 years of struggle" will be discussed and almost certainly ratified by the ruling Communist Party's 300-plus member Central Committee when it meets Nov 8-11 for the sixth and penultimate plenum of its five-year term. 

"This resolution is a further move by Xi to consolidate power and lay the groundwork for a third term," said Yang Chaohui, who lectures on political science at Peking University. 

The so-called "historical resolution", the text of which has not been released, will be only the third, with the previous two put forth during the tenures of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

Washington Times: Xi claims ultimate authority, adopts Mao's title 'helmsman' 

Chinese President and Communist Party General-Secretary Xi Jinping continues to consolidate power and has reached new status, adopting the title “helmsman,” a descriptor not used since Mao Zedong and denoting ultimate authority, according to U.S. intelligence officials. 

Army Lt. Gen. Scott D. Berrier, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, said Mr. Xi’s increased power will fuel the Chinese military’s drive to create forces more powerful than those of the United States in the coming years. 

 “I think Xi is firmly in control of the party, of the military and every aspect of Chinese society,” Gen. Berrier told the Senate Armed Services Committee in testimony late last week. 

In his prepared remarks, Gen. Berrier said a Chinese Communist Party Central Committee meeting in October marked a significant shift in Mr. Xi’s power. 

“The ensuing communique likely signaled Xi’s singular political position within the party, declaring him the ‘core navigator and helmsman,’ an invocation not used since Mao Zedong,” the three-star general said.

ABC News (Australia): Chinese President Xi Jinping warns against 'black swans', 'grey rhinos' amid economic downturn 

China must be on high alert against "black swan" and "grey rhino" financial events in the face of a slowing economy, President Xi Jinping told senior members of the Communist Party faithful. 

State news outlet Xinhua said Mr Xi instructed officials to "prevent and defuse major risks" across a range of fields — politics, ideology, society, science and technology — to "ensure a healthy economy and social stability". 

A "black swan" is an unpredictable market event with extreme financial consequences, while a "grey rhino" is a large, visible threat that goes ignored.

Newsweek: Xi Says China Is Ready for War After Trump, Biden Take Hard Line on Beijing 

Chinese President Xi Jinping warned Friday that Beijing will not shy away from conflict, soon after President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger former Vice President Joe Biden sought to convince Americans they would both stand up to China over the next four years. 

Xi made the remarks in a speech in Beijing marking the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, in which China intervened on behalf of North Korea and fought against America, South Korean and assorted United Nations forces. 

Xi—who in recent years has centralized power, dissolved term limits and become the most influential Chinese leader since Mao Zedong—said in a fiercely nationalistic address at the Great Hall of the People that China is ready for conflict and that global efforts to contain Beijing would fail.
