WNU Editor: Two of my cousins served years ago, and they got their Spetsnaz crimson beret. One of them gave me his beret to me as a gift which I still have at my home in Russia. I think his blood is still on it. On a side note. This same cousin read this post that I put up yesterday .... US Navy SEALs Have Adopted A Gender-Neutral Language In Their Ethos (September 30, 2020). He emailed me this morning shocked. He has trouble believing that it is true. Sighhh .... but it is.

Russian Special Forces Are Using Western Equipment

Most of the equipment of this Russian 'Vympel' special forces diver can be identified as Western. In some cases equipment may be Russian copies of Western designs. H I Sutton (Inserts Russian MOD, Vitaly V. Kuzmin)

Forbes: Image Shows Russian Special Forces Using Western Equipment

Russia’s famous Spetsnaz special forces have a long and proud tradition. Until recently their unit identity was wrapped up in distinctly Russian clothing and equipment. The camouflage schemes, load carrying ‘webbing’ and helmets were instantly recognizable. That was up until recently. Today they are looking increasingly Western and wear kit from countries including America, France and Italy.

The above image shows a Russian ‘Vympel’ dive team member wearing the latest gear. Vympel is one of the leading FSB (Federal Security Service - the modern day KGB) special forces units. The only part of the equipment that is recognizable as Russian, aside from the Velcro flag patch on his American helmet, is is weapon. The magazines in his chest pouches reveal that he would be carrying a Viyaz-SN submachine gun. This is a 9mm weapon based on the famous Kalashnikov family of weapons.

WNU Editor: I have been noticing this trend for the past two years. For example. When I posted this tweet (below), I had to look closely on who is the U.S. soldier, and who is the Russian officer. The soldier on the right is the U.S. officer.

Ilya Naymushin / Reuters

Business Insider: 11 weapons used by Russia's elite Spetsnaz operators

The Russian Defense Ministry recently announced that its elite Spetsnaz forces would receive "several dozen" new 2B25 "silent" 82mm mortar systems.

The 2B25's noise level reportedly "does not exceed that of a Kalashnikov AKMB assault rifle fitted with the PBS-1 silencer," while the system itself "produces almost no muzzle flash or smoke."

Spetsnaz special operators have a long history going back to the Red Bolshevik Guard, but little is known about them because of the unit's secretive nature.

Russian Women Train To Become Special Forces Officers (Video)

The final stage of a six week training course for around 35 future female officers of the Russian Army's Special Forces was held at the training base in southern Russia. The women sharpened their skills against chemical and biological attacks and guerrilla warfare in woodland areas, as well as hand-to-hand fighting, confronting unconventional forces and destroying enemy armored vehicles. Since the beginning of 2013, more than 600 soldiers, including about 150 women, have completed the training program that inaugurates them into the Spetsnaz, a general name for elite divisions of the Russian army.
