BBC: Sudan conflict: Thousands flee fresh ethnic killings in Darfur 

Thousands of people have been forced to flee the Sudanese region of West Dafur amid fears of ethnic cleansing, a medical charity says. 

Witnesses have accused the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of targeting and killing non-Arabs, with reports of hundreds of deaths. 

This comes after the RSF captured the Sudanese army headquarters in West Darfur capital of El Geneina. The RSF says it is not involved in what it describes as a "tribal conflict". 

It has been battling the army for control of the country since April.

Fire engulfs Greater Nile Petroleum Oil Company tower amid clashes around army headquarters in capital while fighting also reported in city of El-Obeid Flames gripped the Sudanese capital on Sunday and paramilitary forces attacked the army headquarters for the second day in a row, witnesses reported, as fighting raged into its six month. 

“Clashes are now happening around the army headquarters with various types of weapons,” said a Khartoum resident, who declined to be named. Other witnesses in southern Khartoum said they heard “huge bangs” as the army targeted bases of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitaries with artillery.

CNN: Sudan civil war ‘spiraling out of control,’ UN says, as more than 1 million flee 

More than one million people have fled Sudan to neighboring countries since April, according to the United Nations, as fighting between two warring factions plunges the country into civil war.

The conflict in Sudan has displaced more than 3.4 million people inside the country, a report released on Tuesday by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said. 

Those who escaped Sudan have arrived in other countries in the region including Egypt, Libya, Chad, the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Ethiopia. 

Heavy fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid-April, triggering a mass exodus of refugees from the East African country, where allied militias have been accused of killing civilians, ransacking houses and ethnic cleansing, leading to accusations of crimes against humanity.

Reuters: Sudan war enters 100th day as mediation attempts fail 

(Reuters) -Clashes flared in parts of Sudan on the 100th day of the war on Sunday as mediation attempts by regional and international powers failed to find a path out of an increasingly intractable conflict. 

The fighting broke out on April 15 as the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) vied for power. 

Since then, more than 3 million people have been uprooted, including more than 700,000 who have fled to neighbouring countries. Some 1,136 people have been killed, according to the health ministry, though officials believe the number is higher. 

Neither the army nor the RSF has been able to claim victory, with the RSF's domination on the ground in the capital Khartoum up against the army's air and artillery firepower.

CNN: UN warns of ‘full-scale civil war’ in Sudan after weekend airstrike kills dozens 

The United Nations has warned that Sudan could be on the verge of all-out-war after a weekend airstrike killed dozens in a residential area in the Sudanese city of Omdurman. 

At least 22 people were killed and many injured in a shelling attack early Saturday, the country’s health ministry said, as months of infighting between Sudan’s rival military forces continue to rage on across the country. 

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the weekend bombing was an indication that Sudan was now on “the brink of a full-scale civil war.”

France 24: Fighting resumes in Sudan after 24-hour ceasefire ends  

Shelling and gunfire resumed Sunday in the Sudanese capital, witnesses said, at the end of a 24-hour ceasefire that had given civilians rare respite from nearly two months of war.  

Deadly fighting has raged in the northeast African country since mid-April, when army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), turned on each other. 

The latest in a series of ceasefire agreements enabled civilians trapped in the capital Khartoum to venture outside and stock up on food and other essential supplies. 

But only 10 minutes after it ended at 6:00 am (0400 GMT) on Sunday the capital was rocked again by the sound of shelling and clashes, witnesses told AFP.

Reuters: Shelling, looting in Sudan's capital as military factions battle for eighth week 

DUBAI (Reuters) - Shelling hit western areas of Sudan's capital on Monday morning after rival military factions fought through the night, residents said, with reports of deepening lawlessness in Khartoum and in the western region of Darfur. 

Fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who have been battling each other for more than seven weeks, intensified after the expiry late on Saturday of a ceasefire deal brokered by Saudi Arabia and the U.S. 

The conflict has uprooted more than 1.2 million people within Sudan and sent about 400,000 fleeing into neighbouring countries, inflicting heavy damage on the capital where remaining residents are at the mercy of battles, air strikes and lawlessness.

Reuters: Sudanese army suspends ceasefire talk 

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) - Sudan's army suspended talks with a rival paramilitary force on Wednesday over a ceasefire and aid access, raising fears the six-week-old conflict will push Africa's third largest nation deeper into a humanitarian crisis. 

The general command of the armed forces said in a statement it suspended talks in the Saudi city of Jeddah, accusing the other side of a lack of commitment in implementing any terms of the agreement and a continuous violation of the ceasefire. 

The negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in early May, had produced a declaration of commitments to protect civilians and two short-term ceasefire deals, although those deals were repeatedly violated.

Reuters: Sudan ceasefire starts precariously as continued fighting reported 

KHARTOUM (Reuters) -A week-long ceasefire in Sudan got off to a shaky start on Monday as witnesses in the capital Khartoum reported fighter jets flights over the city and continued fighting in some areas. 

Heavy bombardments could be heard in east Khartoum, witnesses said, and one resident shared a picture of thick black smoke rising into the sky. 

In Omdurman and Bahri, Khartoum's twin cities, people said they heard sounds of weapons firing. 

After five weeks of fierce battles between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the warring factions on Saturday agreed to a seven-day truce starting at 9:45 p.m. (19:45 GMT) on Monday that was intended to allow for the delivery of aid.

Reuters: Air strikes hit Khartoum's outskirts as Sudan's war enters sixth week 

CAIRO/DUBAI (Reuters) -Air strikes hit outer areas of the Sudanese capital Khartoum overnight and on Saturday morning, as fighting that has trapped civilians in a humanitarian crisis and displaced more than a million entered its sixth week. 

The fighting between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has led to a collapse in law and order with looting that both sides blame the other for. Stocks of food, cash, and essentials are rapidly dwindling.

Air strikes were reported by eyewitnesses in southern Omdurman and northern Bahri, the two cities that lie across the Nile from Khartoum, forming Sudan's "triple capital". 

Some of the strikes took place near the state broadcaster in Omdurman, the eyewitnesses said.

ABC News: Sudan's rival forces hold peace talks amid shaky cease-fires 

Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces officials began talks Saturday.

Sounds of fighting and artillery shooting could be heard in several parts of Sudan on Monday as talks between warring sides were underway in Saudi Arabia amid hopes it will to bring a short-term ceasefire. 

Witnesses reported renewed clashes in east and central Khartoum and in the adjoining cities of Bahari and Omdurman. Airstrikes hit parts of Khartoum as dark smoke rose in the sky, residents said. 

Negotiations between the Sudanese army and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) group began on Saturday in Saudi Arabia's coastal city of Jeddah, on the Red Sea, as part of a U.S.-Saudi initiative aimed to bring a hiatus to the three-week conflict which killed hundreds and sparked an influx of refugees.

Gun battles and air strikes on Sunday again flared in Sudan's capital, which has been rocked by four weeks of fighting despite the latest ceasefire efforts backed by Saudi Arabia and the United States. 

Multiple truce deals have been declared and quickly violated since fighting erupted between army and paramilitary forces on April 15 in the poverty-stricken country with a history of political instability.

CNBC/Reuters: Sudan conflict shows no sign of easing, U.N. warns of breaking point 

As foreign states wind down their evacuations from Sudan, the United Nations warned of a humanitarian “breaking point” with no let up in fighting between rival military factions despite a supposed ceasefire extension. 

Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands wounded over 16 days of battles since long-simmering tension between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted into conflict on April 15. 

There seems little prospect of a quick resolution to the crisis, which has unleashed a humanitarian disaster, damaged swathes of the capital Khartoum, risked drawing in regional powers and reignited a simmering conflict in the Darfur region. 

Both sides had agreed on Sunday to extend a much-violated truce by 72 hours, but the sound of airstrikes and anti-aircraft fire rang out across Khartoum on Monday morning.

BBC: Sudan crisis: Air strikes hit Khartoum despite truce 

Air strikes have pounded Sudan's capital, Khartoum, despite a truce aimed at allowing civilians to flee. 

The army said it was attacking the city to flush out its paramilitary rivals, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). 

The fighting intensified even as the warring sides said they would extend the truce by another three days. 

More than 500 deaths have been reported with the true number of casualties believed to be much higher. Millions remain trapped in Khartoum.

France 24: Fighting in Sudan enters third week with air raids, heavy fire despite new truce 

Warplanes on bombing raids drew heavy anti-aircraft fire over Khartoum on Saturday as fierce fighting between Sudan's army and paramilitaries entered a third week, despite a renewed truce. 

Sudan has plunged into chaos and lawlessness since the fighting erupted on April 15 between forces loyal to army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his number two Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). 

Burhan and Daglo have agreed to multiple truces since the start of the conflict, but none has effectively taken hold, with each side blaming the other for breaching them.

BBC: Sudan crisis: Ceasefire extended but fighting continues 

Rival factions of Sudan's military agreed to renew a three-day ceasefire, shortly before it was due to expire. 

The extension - for another 72 hours - follows intensive diplomatic efforts by neighbouring countries, as well as the US, UK and UN. 

But there are continuing reports of heavy fighting in the capital Khartoum. 

The previous truce allowed thousands of people to attempt to flee to safety, while dozens of countries have tried to evacuate their citizens. 

Almost two weeks of fighting between the army and a rival paramilitary group have left hundreds dead. 

The ceasefire had been expected to end at midnight local time (22:00 GMT on Thursday).

The World Health Organization warned Tuesday of a “huge biological risk” after Sudanese fighters seized the National Public Health Laboratory in the capital Khartoum, as foreign nations raced to mount rapid evacuation efforts from the country and violence punctured a fragile US-brokered ceasefire. 

Gunfire and the roar of fighter jets was heard by CNN journalists in Khartoum on Tuesday, half a day after the announcement of a 72-hour truce raised hopes of opening up escape routes for civilians desperate to flee.

Axios: Warring generals in Sudan agree to 72-hour cease-fire, Blinken says 

Secretary of State Tony Blinken announced on Monday that the Sudanese military and Rapid Support Forces have agreed to a 72-hour cease-fire beginning at midnight local time.  

The big picture: Previous attempts at a temporary cease-fire have failed. But there are hopes among the international community that if a truce can be implemented and holds, it can be the basis for negotiations for a permanent end to the fighting. 

Behind the scenes: The U.S. gave the two warring parties in Sudan a new proposal for a cease-fire plan on Sunday, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the proposal.

The Independent: Sudan’s top general makes first video address since conflict as death toll passes 400 

Sudan's top general has appeared on TV for the first time since the eruption of a deadly power struggle, promising a transition to civilian rule as the US and others made plans to evacuate diplomats and civilians from the deepening violence. 

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan spoke in a video message released to mark the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday as gunfire continued to rip through the capital Khartoum. “We are confident that we will overcome this ordeal... allowing us to be entrusted with the safe transition to civilian rule,” he said.
