Reuters: FBI chief says TikTok 'screams' of US national security concerns 

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China's government could use TikTok to control data on millions of American users, FBI Director Christopher Wray told a U.S. Senate hearing on Wednesday, saying the Chinese-owned video app "screams" of security concerns. 

Wray told a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on worldwide threats to U.S. security that the Chinese government could also use TikTok to control software on millions of devices and drive narratives to divide Americans over Taiwan or other issues. 

"Yes, and I would make the point on that last one, in particular, that we're not sure that we would see many of the outward signs of it happening if it was happening," Wray said of concerns China could feed misinformation to users. 

 "This is a tool that is ultimately within the control of the Chinese government - and it, to me, it screams out with national security concerns," Wray said.

* China now wants its busted balloon returned to it after the US shot it down. 

* US Navy divers fished pieces of the massive balloon out of the Atlantic Ocean this weekend. 

* "The airship does not belong to the US," a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said. 

China now wants its busted suspected spy balloon returned after the United States military shot down the device over the coast of South Carolina and fished pieces of it out of the Atlantic Ocean. 

When a reporter asked on Tuesday whether China has called on the US to give back the debris of the downed balloon, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, "The airship does not belong to the US. It belongs to China." 

Additionally, a top Chinese diplomat also said that the US should give back the remnants of the balloon because it's not US property.

Pentagon's Ex-Software Chief Says U.S. Has Lost The AI War Against China

Daily Mail: The Pentagon's first software chief RESIGNS in protest because the US has 'already lost' the AI war with China and is '20 years behind its technology' 

* The Pentagon's first ever chief software officer Nicolas Chaillan said he resigned over U.S. inaction on technological developments in the military 

* He says China has already won the Artificial Intelligence battle 

* 'Right now, it's already a done deal – it is already over in my opinion,' he said in an interview published Sunday. 'Whether it takes a war or not is kind of anecdotal' 

* Comments come as China threatened Taiwan with military action as it plans to 'reunify' with the island 

The Pentagon's first ever chief software officer resigned last month in protest of the slow pace of technological transformation in the U.S. military, claiming the failure to respond to China winning the Artificial Intelligence battle is putting the U.S. at risk. 

Nicolas Chaillan, 37, told the Financial Times after resigning: 'We have no competing fighting chance against China in 15 to 20 years.'

'Right now, it's already a done deal – it is already over in my opinion,' he added. 'Whether it takes a war or not is kind of anecdotal.' 

Chaillan worked for three years on a Pentagon project aimed at boosting cyber security. He was the first chief software officer for the Air Force.

FOX News: US Navy blasts China over 'false' claim about destroyer in South China Sea 

Last month, Vice President Kamala Harris urged Vietnam to join the US in challenging China’s 'bullying' in the South China Sea 

The US Navy’s 7th Fleet said in a statement Wednesday that the destroyer USS Benfold asserted its navigational rights in the South China Sea and called China’s earlier claim about the voyage "false." 

"USS Benfold conducted this FONOP in accordance with international law and then continued on to conduct normal operations in international waters," the Navy’s statement read. 

The Navy did not specify the precise statement it was refuting. The Global Times, which has been described as a public voice for the Chinese Communist Party, claimed that the Benfold "trespassed into areas adjacent to the Meiji reef" until it was "warned off" by Chinese naval and aerial forces.
