CNBC/Reuters: U.S. adds 14 Chinese companies, to economic blacklist over Xinjiang 

The Biden administration on Friday added 14 Chinese companies and other entities to its economic blacklist over alleged human rights abuses and high-tech surveillance in Xinjiang. 

The Commerce Department said the companies had been “implicated in human rights violations and abuses in the implementation of China’s campaign of repression, mass detention, and high technology surveillance against Uyghurs, Kazakhs, and other members of Muslim minority groups in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.” 

Beijing denies the alleged abuses.

US Navy Sends The Destroyer USS John McCain Through The Taiwan Strait For The First Time Under President Biden

US Navy said the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer (pictured in 2017) conducted 'a routine transit' through the waterway separating the Chinese mainland and Taiwan 

CNN: US sends warship through Taiwan Strait for first time under Biden 

Hong Kong (CNN)The United States Navy sent a guided-missile destroyer through the Taiwan Strait on Thursday, the first time a US warship has gone through the waterway that separates China and Taiwan during the Biden administration. 

The Japan-based USS John S McCain made the routine transit in accordance with international law, Lt. Joe Keiley, a spokesperson for the US Navy's 7th Fleet, said in a statement. 

"The ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. 

The United States military will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," Keiley said.
