U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert Withdrew Her Name From Consideration For The U.N. Ambassador Nomination

Trump told reporters in December that he wanted Nauert, right, to be UN ambassador

FOX News: Heather Nauert withdraws from consideration for UN ambassador nomination, State Department says

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert withdrew her name from consideration for the U.N. ambassador nomination, the department said Saturday.

“I am grateful to President Trump and Secretary [Mike] Pompeo for the trust they placed in me for considering me for the position of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations," Nauer said in the statement. "However, the past two months have been grueling for my family and therefore it is in the best interest of my family that I withdraw my name from consideration.

She went on to describe her time working in the administration as being "one of the highest honors of my life."

Is Heather Nauert President Trump's Choice For UN Ambassador?

Reuters: Trump considering U.S. State Department spokeswoman for U.N. ambassador

President Donald Trump on Thursday said he was seriously considering naming U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert to succeed Nikki Haley as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, adding he would make a decision on the posting soon.

“She is under very serious consideration,” Trump told reporters at the White House after announcing planned changes to U.S. immigration policy. “She’s excellent. She’s been with us for a very long time. She’s been a supporter for a long time ... We’ll probably make a decision next week.”

ABC News reported on Thursday that Nauert was offered the job, citing an unnamed senior White House official. Fox News Channel also reported Nauert had been asked to take it on.

Politico: Trump hints at cutting foreign aid over U.N. vote on Jerusalem

President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested that the U.S. could pull foreign aid from nations that vote against it at the United Nations, a warning delivered ahead of a General Assembly vote expected to criticize the Trump administration’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

“For all of these nations that take our money and then they vote against us at the Security Council or they vote against us, potentially, at the Assembly, they take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars and then they vote against us,” Trump said at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

U.S. Threatens U.N. Funding If Palestinian State Is Recognized

US 'Could Withdraw Funding From UN If Palestine State Is Recognized' -- The Telegraph

The US could withdraw funding from the United Nations if its members decide to recognise and independent Palestinian state, a close ally of President Barack Obama has warned.

Susan Rice, the American ambassador to the UN, said there was "no greater threat" to US support and funding of the UN than the prospect of Palestinian statehood being endorsed by member states.

Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian authority, plans to ask the UN general assembly, which comprises all 192 members, to vote on recognition at its annual meeting in New York in September.

The US and Israel are pressing Mr Abbas to drop his plans. Mr Obama has strongly opposed the move, raising the prospect of a veto in the UN Security Council, which is expected to vote on a Palestinian statehood proposal in July.

My Comment: Would the White House cut off funding to the U.N. in the event that the UN general assembly recognizes a Palestinian state .... hmmm .... does it ever freeze in hell?

Is The U.S. Going To Permit The U.N. To Investigate The U.S. Military?

U.S. United Nations Amb. Rice Accepts Possibility Of International Investigation Of U.S. Military -- Weekly Standard

Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the UN and member of Barack Obama's cabinet, opened the door for the possibility of an international investigation into the U.S. military on Fox News Sunday yesterday. Here's the relevant part of the exchange:

Chris Wallace: And a simple question: Would the U.S. accept foreign participation if this country were investigating actions by the U.S. military?

Susan Rice: I think it depends on the circumstances, Chris.

Naturally, this question came up during an exchange about the pro-Hamas flotillas that Israel prevented from reaching its shores. But it's an extraordinarily short-sighted statement for Rice to make.

My Comment:I doubt the U.S. government will permit such an investigation. Amb. Rice's comments were probably a reflection of her own opinions .... and not policy. But if this is an indication of a change in policy .... expect an uproar from the military, much of Congress, and a majority of the American public.
