The Barents Observer: Russia's doomsday drone prepares for testing

One year after the fatal accident with a nuclear-powered missile in the White Sea, Russia's weapon designers say a test launch the Poseidon nuclear powered underwater drone will take place this fall.

The test-launch will take place from the “Belgorod” submarine, a source in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti.

The drone, formed as a giant torpedo, is built to carry a several megatons nuclear warhead and is described by weapons analysts as a “doomsday nuke”. Powered by a small nuclear reactor, the Poseidon has a believed range of 10,000 km across the world’s oceans.

Launched from the Barents Sea or other waters in the Arctic, the drone can autonomously cross the North Atlantic. If detonated outside the east coast of the United States, the nuclear warhead could create a several tens of meters high tsunami wave additional to damage caused by the nuclear blast itself.

The Barents Observer first reported about the existence of the weapon in 2016. In March 2018, President Vladimir Putin confirmed the existence of the upcoming giant underwater drone.

Poseidon was one of six new strategic nuclear weapons presented by the President.

The contingencies revolve around shifting personal and areas of operation. Washington D.C. becomes mobile, both on land and in the sky. Government operations shift between underground bunkers near the capitol, while the armed forces would move to a series of complexes. The Pentagon would shift to Raven Rock Mountain Complex in Pennsylvania, while the Cheyenne Mountain Complex near Colorado Springs would run NORAD.

In 2011, a staffer at Washingtonian found a government ID in a Metro parking garage and gave it to Garrett M. Graff (the magazine’s editor-in-chief at the time) to track down its owner. “Since I reported about that world, he figured I’d know what to do with it,” Graff says.

Graff immediately noticed something strange.

“The back of the ID had these evacuation instructions on it. And so I got on Google Maps and followed the instructions and they led to a road that very clearly went into the side of a mountain, and you can see on the Google satellite view big concrete bunker doors.”

That discovery inspired Graff to comb through newly declassified documents to learn more about the U.S. government’s plans in the event of a nuclear war or other catastrophe. My Comment: What I find amazing about this report is that a few weeks after the end of the Second World War .... Pentagon planners were already planning war strategies against the Soviet Union.

My Comment: The only way that this can even remotely happen is if there is a political and economic collapse followed by a nuclear attack on a number of America's major cities by 'unknown' terrorists .... and then followed by a natural disaster such as a comet strike off the East Coast or a super volcano exploding somewhere in the world.... i.e. the truly worst case/nightmare/end of the world scenario. Otherwise .... this is just a waste of time, energy, and money.

My Comment: A part of me is laughing at these groups ... but heh .... I have a place in the Laurentians of Quebec that is away from population centers, I have enough food and water to last me for at least a few months, I prepay my house bills by at least 6 months, and I always keep some cash and gold in case of a financial crisis (I lived through Russia's financial meltdown in 1992 to know what that feels like).

Hmmmm .... maybe I should not be laughing.
