Maureen Callahan, NYPost: Inside story of Cairo, the dog that helped catch Osama bin Laden
When Navy SEAL Will Chesney first met a military working dog named Cairo, he didn’t know this canine would be The One: a fearless warrior with a soft side, an attack dog who would know the difference between a baby and a bad guy, the lone non-human US soldier to raid Osama bin Laden’s compound in 2011.
Nope. Back on that fateful day in 2008, after Chesney decided to become a dog handler, he took his first instruction seriously — these dogs weren’t like pets. They were lethal weapons.
Despite that warning, handlers are dog people, and they know how profound this bond is. As Chesney writes in “No Ordinary Dog,” his new memoir of life and military service with this storied veteran (co-authored with Joe Layden), “Cairo was not my first choice. Might as well be honest about that.”

Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Claims That Pakistan Aided The U.S. In Tracking Down Osama Bin Laden
A boy collects debris as journalists surround the compound where al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad (May 2011).
RFE: Pakistan Takes Rare Credit For Helping U.S. Kill Al-Qaeda Leader
Pakistan summoned the top U.S. diplomat in the country to formally protest President Donald Trump’s allegations that Islamabad had sheltered al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden, despite receiving billions of dollars in U.S. assistance.
Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua told American charge d’affairs Paul Jones on November 20 that Trump’s “baseless rhetoric” and unsubstantiated allegations were “totally unacceptable” for her country, according to a foreign ministry statement issued after the meeting.
“Rejecting the insinuations about OBL (Osama bin Laden), Foreign Secretary (Janjua) reminded the U.S. CdA (charge d’affairs) that it was Pakistan’s intelligence cooperation that provided the initial evidence to trace the whereabouts of OBL,” the statement noted.

Former Head Of U.S. Special Operations Command: Osama Bin Laden Could 'Absolutely' Have Been Captured Alive
MAN IN CHARGE: Navy admiral William McRaven spoke to Newsnight last night
The Independent: Osama Bin Laden could 'absolutely' have been captured alive, says US military commander
Former special operations commander says Seals made 'right decision'.
The American military commander in charge of the special operations raid that killed Osama bin Laden has said the al-Qaeda founder could “absolutely” have been captured alive.
Admiral William McRaven, the former head of the US Special Operations Command, insisted Seal Team Six’s assault on the compound where the terrorist lived with his family in Pakistan was not a “kill only” mission.
He told the BBC’s Newsnight programme that the 2011 mission went “pretty much as we planned it” with the exception of a helicopter that was destroyed by American forces after clipping the compound’s walls during landing.

Washington Post: CIA tweets U.S. military raid that killed Osama bin Laden — five years later
Navy SEALs may have killed Osama bin Laden in a raid five years ago Sunday, but anyone following the CIA on Twitter might think it all just happened. In a deeply bizarre social marketing move Sunday, the agency “live-tweeted” the raid that led to bin Laden’s death — but it did so five years later.
For anyone who may not be familiar with the term “live tweeting” — an audience that may include the CIA — it refers to the act of reporting something on Twitter as it happens in real time. Sure, by its very nature, that sometimes includes a short lag time. Maybe a few seconds. But in this case, it was five years.

A Review On The Legal Case That Was Prepared For The Killing Of Osama Bin Laden
The house in Abbottabad, Pakistan, where Bin Laden was killed in a raid by Navy SEAL Team 6.
New York Times: How 4 Federal Lawyers Paved the Way to Kill Osama bin Laden
WASHINGTON — Weeks before President Obama ordered the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in May 2011, four administration lawyers developed rationales intended to overcome any legal obstacles — and made it all but inevitable that Navy SEALs would kill the fugitive Qaeda leader, not capture him.
Stretching sparse precedents, the lawyers worked in intense secrecy. Fearing leaks, the White House would not let them consult aides or even the administration’s top lawyer, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. They did their own research, wrote memos on highly secure laptops and traded drafts hand-delivered by trusted couriers.
Just days before the raid, the lawyers drafted five secret memos so that if pressed later, they could prove they were not inventing after-the-fact reasons for having blessed it. “We should memorialize our rationales because we may be called upon to explain our legal conclusions, particularly if the operation goes terribly badly,” said Stephen W. Preston, the C.I.A.’s general counsel, according to officials familiar with the internal deliberations.

Jonathan Mahler, New York Times: What Do We Really Know About Osama bin Laden’s Death?
The history of Obama’s most important foreign-policy victory is still being written.
Mark Bowden was watching a ballgame — the Phillies versus the Mets — on the night of May 1, 2011, when the network cut away to President Obama in the East Room of the White House. “Tonight,” the president said, ‘‘I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women and children.’’
Five minutes or so after the president wrapped up his brief remarks, as thousands of Americans gathered in front of the White House and at ground zero chanting ‘‘U-S-A! U-S-A!’’ Bowden’s cellphone rang. It was Mike Stenson, the president of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Bowden had worked with Bruckheimer on the film adaptation of his 1999 best seller, ‘‘Black Hawk Down.’’

Former Pakistan Defense Minister Admits That Pakistan Knew That Osama Bin Laden Was In Their Country
Washington Post: Pakistani leaders knew Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan, says former defense minister
A former Pakistani defense minister appeared to confirm on Indian television on Tuesday that both his country's senior military and civilian leadership knew of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden's presence in their country at the time of his death in 2011. Bin Laden was killed after his compound in the environs of Islamabad was raided by U.S. Navy SEALs.
It's an open secret that elements within Pakistan's military and political establishment must have been aware of bin Laden's location and perhaps even helped him to safe haven in the years after the United States launched its invasion of Afghanistan and global war against al-Qaeda.
In the months and years since, though, Pakistani officials have remain largely tight-lipped about how bin Laden could have ended up finding such cozy sanctuary on Pakistani soil. Some have denied any knowledge whatsoever of his movements. But there have been tacit admissions.

Did The White House Lie About The Killing Of Osama Bin Laden?
Seymour M. Hersh, London Review Of Books: The Killing of Osama bin Laden
It’s been four years since a group of US Navy Seals assassinated Osama bin Laden in a night raid on a high-walled compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The killing was the high point of Obama’s first term, and a major factor in his re-election. The White House still maintains that the mission was an all-American affair, and that the senior generals of Pakistan’s army and Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) were not told of the raid in advance. This is false, as are many other elements of the Obama administration’s account. The White House’s story might have been written by Lewis Carroll: would bin Laden, target of a massive international manhunt, really decide that a resort town forty miles from Islamabad would be the safest place to live and command al-Qaida’s operations? He was hiding in the open. So America said.
WNU Editor: Seymour Hersh only has one source for this claim .... my suggestion is that he needs to find a few more.

Who Really Shot Osama Bin Laden?
Who Shot Bin Laden? A Tale of Two SEALs -- Matthew Cole and Anna Schecter, NBC
Two different alumni of SEAL Team Six, the secretive group of highly trained soldiers that killed Osama bin Laden three years ago, have been profiting off their role in the terror leader’s death since leaving the military.
Former Team Six member Matt Bissonnette, who wrote a bestseller under a pseudonym about shooting bin Laden, is about to publish his second book about being a Navy SEAL. Rob O’Neill, meanwhile, is the unnamed “shooter” who was credited in numerous magazine articles with firing the fatal shots, and according to two SEAL sources will be presented again as the “shooter” in a Fox News interview that airs later this month. He has been traveling the country giving paid motivational speeches on the unspoken understanding that he’s the man who killed bin Laden.
Neither man is the SEAL who was first up the stairs at bin Laden’s Pakistan compound and fired the first shot at Osama. But their dueling narratives are a sign of the backbiting and dysfunction that has roiled a once tight-knit band of warriors as former members violate their code of secrecy in search of the spotlight.

Why Is The U.S. Government Ignoring The Documents And Intel Retrieved In The Bin Laden Raid?
President Obama and his national security team in the White House Situation Room. Pete Souza/White House
Al Qaeda Wasn’t ‘On The Run’ -- Stephen F. Hayes, Weekly Standard
Why haven’t we seen the documents retrieved in the bin Laden raid?
In the early morning hours of May 2, 2011, an elite team of 25 American military and intelligence professionals landed inside the walls of a compound just outside the Pakistani city of Abbottabad. CIA analysts had painstakingly tracked a courier to the compound and spent months monitoring the activity inside the walls. They’d concluded, with varying levels of confidence, that the expansive white building at the center of the lot was the hideout of Osama bin Laden.
They were correct. And minutes after the team landed, the search for bin Laden ended with a shot to his head.
The primary objective of Operation Neptune Spear was to capture or kill the leader of al Qaeda. But a handful of those on the ground that night were part of a “Sensitive Site Exploitation” team that had a secondary mission: to gather as much intelligence from the compound as they could.

Is There Any Proof That Pakistan Sheltered Bin Laden?
President Obama and members of his national security team receiving an update on the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Pete Souza/The White House
Pakistan Sheltered Bin Laden? Prove It -- Peter Bergen, CNN National Security Analyst
(CNN) -- The New York Times magazine is running a bombshell story alleging that the Pakistanis knew all along that Osama bin Laden was living for years in his longtime hiding place in the northern Pakistan city of Abbottabad, where he was killed by a U.S. Navy SEAL team on May 2, 2011.
The Times story, titled "What Pakistan Knew About bin Laden," will carry weight: It was written by Carlotta Gall, the dean of the correspondents who have covered Afghanistan and Pakistan since that fateful day in 2001, when al Qaeda's four hijacked planes crashed through America's comfortable sense that vast oceans insulated it from its enemies.
At great personal risk Gall has authoritatively covered the war in Afghanistan for the past 12 years. Indeed, I first met her during the civil war in Afghanistan during the mid-1990s when she was an aid worker, and I have met her many times since. I encouraged her (along with, I'm sure, many others) to write a book about her reporting in Afghanistan, as no Western reporter has more to say about what has transpired there since the fall of the Taliban.
The bin Laden story in the New York Times magazine is an extract from Gall's forthcoming book, "The Wrong Enemy: America in Afghanistan, 2001-2014."
Gall makes two astonishing claims in her Times magazine piece.
My Comment: There is a critical flaw in Peter Bergen's analysis .... he believes that there must be some document out there that will implicate the Pakistani government in hiding Bin laden .... but this is not how government functions on implementing messy and critical policy decisions. Case in point .... and I am using an extreme example .... as of today no one has found a direct order from Adolf Hitler that called for the establishment of the concentration camps .... and I predict that one will never be found. Adolf Hitler did not need to issue an order .... because everyone understand exactly what Adolf Hitler wanted for the simple reason that they were like Adolf Hitler .... after-all .... that is why Hitler positioned them to be where they were .... he knew that they thought like he did. Jumping to Pakistan of today .... no one had to be issued an order to protect Bin Laden .... everyone understood that bin Laden had to be protected .... and the best way they protected him was to ignore him and to deny any argument that he was in Pakistan. And in the event that he was found (which he was) .... well then .... everyone in Pakistan would then be in a position to deny that they knew he was in their country .... which is exactly what they then did after his killing.
Update: Everyone knows that Bin Laden's right hand man and now Al Qaeda leader (Zawahiri) is in Pakistan .... not surprisingly .... I do not know of any massive investigation and hunt for him is occurring in Pakistan today .... and I predict that there will be none for the simple reason that they have positioned themselves to be in denial mode when he is eventually found and captured/killed.

Did The U.S. Navy SEALs 'Took Turns Dumping HUNDREDS Of Bullets' Into Osama Bin Laden's Dead Body?
Photo: Excessive? A new report claims that Osama bin Laden was shot more than a hundred times by Navy SEALs in the 2011 raid

* Some think the alleged excessive treatment is the reason why the Obama administration has not released the 'death photos' of the al Qaeda leader
* White House has always said that any photos of his dead body or sea burial would be used as propaganda by terror cells
Special operations sources have claimed that the terror leader was shot more than one hundred times in the fatal 2011 raid.
A new report from a website known within the intelligence and armed services community claims that the sheer number of times that Osama bin Laden was shot is the reason why the government has never released photos of his dead body.
Citing two confidential sources, The Special Operations Forces Situation Report tells how 'operator after operator took turns dumping magazines-worth of ammunition into Bin Laden’s body'.

‘Destroy Immediately’: Top US Commander Ordered Bin Laden Photos Purge -- RT
Eleven days after the 2011 US elite forces raid that resulted in the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, the head of US special operations ordered the destruction of all photos of the corpse or for them to be given to the CIA, new evidence shows.
The disclosure was revealed Monday in an email obtained and released by non-profit legal group Judicial Watch via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
