At least 750 people with suspected links to Islamic State have reportedly fled a displacement camp in north-east Syria, local officials have said, raising fears that the Turkish offensive against Kurdish forces in the area could lead Isis to regain strength amid the chaos.

The news came at the same time the US ordered all 1,000 US troops to withdraw “as safely and quickly as possible” from the region after learning that the Turkish operation was likely to extend further than Ankara’s proposed 20-mile (32km) “safe zone” on the border between the two countries.

More than 11,000 Syrian Democratic Forces fighters were killed and 21,000 others wounded fighting ISIS, the group announced on Saturday following the group's formal liberation of ISIS' last enclave in Syria.

"On this occasion we cannot but remember those heroes and pay tribute to the memory of the martyrs and wish the urgent recovery of their wounds, without their sacrifices we would not granted this victory," the SDF statement says.

Task & Purpose was unable to independently verify the SDF's casualty figures.

All ISIS-held territory in Syria has been '100%' eliminated, the White House said Friday, but President Donald Trump is still warning that the once-strong terror army is still a danger online.

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan briefed Trump about developments on the ground, according to White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.

The president has been hinting at the victory for days. Sanders gave reporters a look at a before-and-after map of Iraq and Syria that indicated ISIS no longer controls any territory there. Trump showed off the same map Wednesday at the White House as he left for a brief trip to Ohio.

The Last ISIS Stronghold In Syria Has Fallen

BAGHOUZ, Syria -- The caliphate has crumbled, and the final offensive is over. While the official announcement hasn’t yet been made – Fox News has been told that this village, the last ISIS stronghold, is liberated.

It’s the first time since we’ve been here in Syria for five days that the bombs have stopped dropping and the gunfire has disappeared. We have witnessed the end of the caliphate – the brutal empire that once ruled over 8 million people – is gone.

Troops here are now bringing down the black flags of ISIS. The flags no longer fly over the town, instilling fear.

The last five days, Fox News has witnessed the last major offensive up close -– with U.S.-backed SDF forces attacking ISIS from three sides, pushing the fighters back, house to house, then tent to tent, against the Euphrates River.

American-backed fighters in Syria have seized buildings inside ISIS's last stronghold after a night of intense shelling and airstrikes.

Troops for the Syrian Democratic Forces captured a cluster of buildings inside Baghouz early on Monday and were facing off against an ISIS counter-attack.

'Several positions captured and an ammunition storage has been blown up,' SDF spokesman Mustafa Bali said on Twitter.

Battles Continue To Rage For The Last Islamic State Enclave In Syria

Reuters: Battle rages for last Islamic State Syria enclave

BAGHOUZ, Syria (Reuters) - Falling bombs raised smoke over Islamic State’s last enclave in east Syria on Sunday, obscuring the huddle of vehicles and makeshift shelters to which the group’s self-declared “caliphate” has been reduced.

Air strikes and artillery began hitting the area and smoke billowed overhead late in the afternoon as U.S.-backed forces resumed their weeks-long attack, a Reuters reporter said.

After dark, a Kurdish TV channel broadcast live footage showing fires raging and the swift glow of rockets pounding into the enclave accompanied by the sound of intense gunfire.

During an earlier lull in fighting, tiny figures of people still inside were clearly visible walking among hundreds of trucks, cars and minibuses clustered around a few concrete buildings by the bank of the Euphrates.

Reuters: 'We don't see the enemy' concealed jihadists slow IS defeat

DEIR AL-ZOR PROVINCE, Syria (Reuters) - The young Syrian man crossing out of Islamic State’s last enclave in eastern Syria brought confirmation that the fight was still not over despite days of ferocious bombardment by U.S.-backed forces.

“There are people coming out and others not coming out,” said the bearded man wearing a robe and head scarf, one of hundreds of people who left the enclave at Baghouz on Thursday to surrender to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Asked if there were many people still inside, he said “yes” in the footage obtained by Reuters from the Kurdish TV station Ronahi. “I was injured in my back,” said the man, originally from the nearby city of Deir al-Zor.

On Friday suicide attackers struck a group of people leaving Baghouz and surrendering, the SDF said, the first such blasts to target any of the thousands of people abandoning the enclave.

CNN: Heavy fighting reported as US-backed forces attack last ISIS stronghold in Syria

Heavy fighting erupted Sunday as US-backed forces attacked the last ISIS stronghold in Syria amid a final push to clear the jihadist group from the war-torn country.

A CNN team in Syria witnessed airstrikes, explosions and mortar fire in Baghouz after the operation by the Syrian Defense Forces began about 6 pm local time.

SDF spokesman Mustafa Bali said on Twitter Sunday that its forces were engaged in "direct violent clashes" and that its planes were targeting weapons depots.

Waves Of People Are Still Leaving The Islamic State's Last Syrian Enclave

ABC News Online: Islamic State fighters hand themselves in as noose tightens around last Syrian stronghold

Around 1,000 Islamic State fighters have handed themselves in to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after negotiating their surrender from the last stronghold in Baghouz.

At a clearing ground just outside the battlefield, the ABC spoke to a group of IS fighters who were pleading for medical treatment.

An Egyptian man said the group came out as part of a negotiated surrender.

"They say they have a deal that the injured people have to go to hospital to get care, then everybody will go to jail and we say, 'OK, we are happy to get out of this fight".

AL-MARASHIDAH, Syria — In a deserted farmhouse on the Deir Ezzor front line, a group of Kurdish fighters and foreign volunteers — an American, a Scotsman, an Australian and a South Korean — took up position on the edge of Islamic State territory, firing wildly from the hollow windows onto ISIS fighters hiding in the orchards below.

Unseen from the house, ISIS militants crept forward into the building’s garden, launching a sudden assault on this isolated position, targeting the group with snipers, machine guns, and anti-tank rocket fire before they attempted to storm it.

Angry crowds streaming out of the last ISIS territory in Syria have vowed the terror group 'will remain' even as defeat looms for the extremists.

More than 3,000 people have evacuated from Baghouz in the last 24 hours as US-backed forces close in on victory.

But extremists among them praised the remaining militants fighting to the death in the besieged town while some ISIS brides refused to denounce jihad as they fled from the bomb-ravaged community.

* A fire storm rained down over the weekend as the Kurds resumed their shelling of the last stronghold in Syria
* Hundreds of ISIS extremists are cowering behind women and children in the starving, disease-riddled town
* Some 150 militants, including foreign jihadists, are now understood to have surrendered to US-backed forces

ISIS militants are using civilians as human shields in the fight against US-backed troops in their last remaining Syrian stronghold.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its allies from the US-led coalition rained down a fire storm over the weekend on the dregs of the regime at Baghouz in eastern Syria.

Spokesman for the Kurdish SDF forces Mustafa Bali said that the battle 'will be over soon' despite a painstaking effort to evacuate women and children from the town.

An SDF official said today that some 500 people, including ISIS fighters, have surrendered and evacuated the village and its surrounding areas, with 200 more expected to leave later on.
