WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States has not pressured Israel to rule out military action in order to halt Iran's nuclear program, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Tuesday after talks with President George W. Bush.

The outgoing prime minister, who ends what is probably his last visit to Washington in office, said he had "spoke at length with Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and the president on Iran."

US Warns Israel Against Large IDF Ops

From The Jerusalem Post:

The US has requested that Israel refrain from embarking on any large-scale operations during the last weeks of the George W. Bush administration, Time magazine reported Monday evening.

The magazine quotes an unnamed Israeli source at the Defense Ministry as saying, "We have been warned off."

IDF officials hinted in the past that a preemptive attack on Iran's nuclear installations might be timed to take place before the inauguration of US President-elect Barack Obama. Obama is slated to take office on January 20.

My Comment: The current U.S. administration and the incoming U.S. administration do not want any surprises .... not with a financial crisis being the main focus in Washington at the present moment.

Heading For A Collision Course (Israel And The U.S.) -- A Commentary

If the opinion polls are right, Israel and the United States are on a collision course. The predicted election victories of Barack Obama for the US presidency and Binyamin Netanyahu in next February's elections here promise a return of the frosty relations when Bill Clinton was in the White House and Netanyahu had his disastrous first term in the Prime Minister's Office.
