DW: International Rescue Commission lists emergency hotspots 

Every year, the IRC publishes its Emergency Watchlist. Globally, there are record numbers of people in need of humanitarian assistance — but there is cause for hope. 

The International Rescue Committee was founded in 1933, at the suggestion of Jewish refugee Albert Einstein, to rescue people from the Nazi regime. 

Today, the IRC helps victims of war around the world. For the last 10 years, the organization has published its Emergency Watchlist: the 20 countries at greatest risk of deteriorating into a humanitarian crisis. 

 Factors such as economic resilience, the intensity of conflicts, natural disasters and the displacement of people are all taken into account. 

The countries in the top 10 (in this order) are: Somalia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, Burkina Faso, Haiti and Ukraine. 

Numbers 11 to 20 are: the Central African Republic, Chad, Lebanon, Mali, Myanmar, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan and Venezuela.

* Eighteen divers have been sent in to complete the mission as officials said Sunday was 'D-Day' for rescue
* The young footballers and their coach have been trapped in flooded caves in northern Thailand for 16 days
* As soon as the boys exit the cave they will be airlifted by helicopter or driven by ambulance to local hospital

Four players from the missing Thai soccer team which became trapped inside a flooded Thai cave have now been brought out after divers executed a carefully constructed rescue mission.

Thirty-five emergency doctors were on standby to greet the 'exhausted' boys as they were flown by military helicopters and ambulances to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh hospital.

But divers won't be rescuing any more children tonight, the Thai Public Broadcast Service announced this evening, reporting: ‘Only six of the boys will be taken out tonight.’

However, authorities later confirmed they had only been able to rescue four boys, instead of the planned six.

U.S. Military Rescuing Sick Baby On Family's Boat In Pacific Ocean -- Reuters

(Reuters) - An American family that had been sailing across the Pacific Ocean for several weeks was the focus of a U.S. military rescue mission on Saturday after their 1-year-old daughter became severely ill, officials said.

Eric and Charlotte Kaufman, along with their daughters Cora, 3, and 1-year-old Lyra sailed from Mexico on March 19 toward islands in the South Pacific and eventually New Zealand, according to therebelheart.com, where they have been writing about their sometimes stormy voyage.

The family sent out a distress call by satellite from their boat, named Rebel Heart, on Thursday about 1,000 miles off Mexico's Pacific coast.

My Comment: Taking a one year old on a sailing trip to circle the globe .... and on a 36 foot sailboat at that .... just does not sound right to me. They are very lucky that their distress call was heard, and within range of a U.S. navy ship.
