Yemen's Houthi rebels said they carried out several attacks on Friday, the largest being on an oil storage and shipping facility in Jiddah. Sunday's F1 Grand Prix there will go ahead as scheduled, organizers said. 

Yemen's Houthi rebels on Friday attacked several targets in Saudi Arabia, including a Saudi Aramco oil storage and shipping facility in the coastal city of Jiddah.

"We did several attacks with drones and ballistic missiles," including an "Aramco installation in Jiddah [and] vital installations in Riyadh," the rebels said in a statement. 

The Jiddah facility, which was previously attacked last Sunday, was struck by missiles before two storage tanks caught fire, sending huge plumes of smoke into the air. 

No casualties were reported.

DW: Yemen's Houthi rebels hit Aramco, other facilities in Saudi Arabia 

The coalition fighting in Yemen said Houthi rebels hit several energy facilities in Saudi Arabia. This comes days after the rebels rejected a GCC invitation for talks on the conflict. 

The Saudi-led military coalition said early on Sunday that the Houthi rebels launched four attacks on the kingdom, state media reported. 

The attacks damaged civilian cars and homes but caused no casualties, it said. 

It was the latest escalation in a slate of Houthi cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia as peace talks between the two sides remain stalled. The ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels has taken a devastating toll on Yemen since 2015.

More than 200 people are feared dead or wounded after an airstrike on a prison in Yemen, and at least three children were killed in a separate bombardment, in a dramatic escalation of the country’s long-running conflict. 

Houthi rebels released gruesome video footage on Friday showing bodies in the rubble and mangled corpses from the prison attack, which levelled buildings at the jail in their northern heartland of Saada. 

Farther south in the port town of Hodeida, the children died when airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition hit a telecommunications facility as they played nearby, Save the Children said.

CNN: Saudi led-coalition launches airstrikes on Yemeni capital after deadly Houthi drone strike in Abu Dhabi 

Abu Dhabi, UAE (CNN)The Saudi led-coalition fighting in Yemen launched airstrikes on the Yemeni capital on Monday, shortly after Iranian-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a deadly drone attack in the United Arab Emirates. 

"In response to the threat and military necessity, airstrikes began on Sana'a," Saudi Arabia's state-run Al-Ekhbariya said on Twitter. 

"The vicious attack on the UAE is a hostile act. The Houthi targeting of civilians in the kingdom and the UAE are war crimes whose perpetrators must be held accountable," Al-Ekhbariya said in a tweet. 

The drone attack near Abu Dhabi's aiport killed at least three people and sparked multiple explosions in the UAE's capital.

RFE: Saudi-Led Coalition Accuses Iran, Hizballah Of Helping Yemen's Huthi Rebels  

A Saudi-led coalition fighting Huthi rebels in Yemen has accused Iran and Lebanon's Tehran-backed Shi'ite militant movement Hizballah of helping the insurgents to launch missiles and drones at the kingdom. 

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki told reporters on December 26 that the Iran-aligned Huthis had been “militarizing” Sanaa airport and using it as a base to target Saudi Arabia, an allegation the Huthis deny. 

Malki showed reporters a video clip which he said depicted "the headquarters of Iranian and Hizballah experts at the airport,” where the Islamic militant group allegedly "trains the Huthis to booby-trap and use drones.” 

The footage and Malki’s claims could not be independently verified.

Military operation comes in response to a Houthi attack that killed three people in Saudi Arabia's border town of Jizan 

The Saudi-led coalition on Saturday launched a "large-scale" attack on Yemen after a projectile killed two people in the kingdom, in the first such deaths in three years blamed on the Houthi movement. 

The coalition retaliated with an air strike on Ajama, a town northwest of Yemen's Houthi-held capital, Sanaa, killing three people and wounding six others, Yemeni medics said. 

Following the attack on Ajama, Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree warned Saudi Arabia of a "painful" response if the coalition does not stop its "aggression". 

In a statement published on the Houthis' Telegram channel, he said the Iran-aligned group had launched three ballistic missiles on Jizan.

BBC: Yemen war: Saudis intercept Houthi missiles - defence ministry 

Saudi Arabia says it has intercepted three missiles and three drones fired by Houthi rebels in neighbouring Yemen. 

One was destroyed over the eastern city of Dammam, where falling shrapnel injured two children and damaged buildings, the defence ministry said. 

The Houthis - who frequently mount such cross-border attacks - said they had targeted Saudi oil facilities. 

The other attacks were aimed at oil sites in the southern provinces of Jizan and Najran, the group said. There are no immediate reports of impact on Saudi oil facilities.

The National: Saudi air defences intercept 17 Houthi armed drones in one day 

Attacks came after Saudi-led coalition halted operations in Yemen to help with peace efforts Saudi Arabia's air defences destroyed 17 Houthi drones fired by the Yemeni rebels at the kingdom on Saturday. 

A spokesman from the Iran-backed rebel group said in a tweet on Saturday that a drone was launched towards a military base in Khamis Mushait – a south-western Saudi city about 100 kilometres from the Yemen border. 

The coalition said two more drones were fired at Khamis Mushait, while eight were sent to other locations in the south, one being the city of Najran, state TV reported.

 A record number of ballistic missile and drone attacks have tested Saudi air defense capabilities. 

They've succeeded admirably but at a high cost. DUBAI: Saudi Arabia has come under intensive attacks by ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones for the past few weeks in an apparent attempt by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias in Yemen to force the kingdom to concede to their demands to end the five-year-long Yemeni War. However, robust Saudi air defenses have negated these attacks by intercepting the majority of the incoming projectiles. 

“The accomplishments of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces (RSADF) are impressive… The RSADF is now the global leader in (ballistic) missile intercepts,” said David DesRoches, a professor at the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies at National Defense University in Washington DC.

On another note. For an adversary that has no industrial base, and who deny receiving assistance from Iran, the Houthis have been very prolific in producing the weapons they need to conduct this many strikes .... CBS: Iran-backed Houthis launch new attacks on Saudi Arabia while "exchanging ideas" with U.S. 

Saudi Arabia said on Friday that its air defense systems had intercepted a ballistic missile over the southern city of Najran. 

It was the latest in a series of escalating attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who have consistently targeted Saudi infrastructure in retaliation for the Saudi-led war against their insurgency in neighboring Yemen. 

Another missile struck an Aramco petroleum distribution terminal in the city of Jizan overnight, leading to a fire at one of the terminal's tanks, the Saudi Energy Ministry said in a statement. The Houthis were quick to claim the attacks, along with attempted kamikazi drone strikes.

The US-backed Saudi-led coalition continues to launch airstrikes across Yemen. Over the past few days, Saudi bombs have hit the capital Sanaa, Maarib province, and the Red Sea port of Salif. 

On Monday, the UN said the airstrikes in Salif targeted a grain port and hit a warehouse and the living quarters of a food production company. “Local authorities and company management stated that six injured workers were transferred to local medical facilities for treatment,” the UN mission in Hodeidah, Yemen, said in a statement.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia presented a new peace initiative on Monday to end the war in Yemen, including a nationwide ceasefire and the reopening of air and sea links, but its Houthi enemies said the offer did not appear to go far enough to lift a blockade. 

The initiative, announced by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, would include reopening Sanaa airport, and allow fuel and food imports through Hodeidah port, both of which are controlled by the Iran-aligned Houthis. 

Political negotiations between the Saudi-backed government and the Houthis would be restarted, he told a news conference, It would take effect when the Yemeni sides accepted. Yemen’s internationally recognized government issued a statement welcoming the offer.

Iran-backed Houthi forces are launching more and more armed drones and missiles against Saudi Arabia, but Riyadh has managed to foil most of the attacks. 

WASHINGTON — Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have ramped up drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia over the past month, employing increasingly sophisticated drones and missiles to hit targets across the kingdom's territory, Defense officials and experts say. 

The Houthis launched more than 40 drones and missiles at Saudi Arabia in February alone, a senior U.S. Defense official told NBC News. "We're certainly aware of a troubling increase in Houthi cross-border attacks from a variety of systems, including cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles)," the Defense official said. 

The attacks underscore the Houthis' ability to strike at far-flung targets in Saudi Arabia over hundreds of miles, including the center of the kingdom's oil industry.

It's not as if oil - the best performing class of 2021 - behind bitcoin of course - needed any more reasons to surge higher (for the latest tally please read "Saudis + Commodity Funds = Energy Stock Explosion"), but it got it moments ago when Saudi Arabia said that it had intercepted missiles and a barrage of drones launched from neighboring Yemen and which targeted Dhahran, where Saudi Aramco, the world’s biggest oil company, is headquartered, which eyewitnesses said was rocked by an explosion. 

According to Bloomberg which quotes witnesses on the ground, the blast shook windows in Dhahran, which hosts a large compound for Aramco employees.

Yemen's Houthi forces fired a cross-border missile at a Saudi Aramco facility in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea city of Jeddah, a Houthi military spokesman said on Thursday, but there was no immediate confirmation from Saudi authorities. 

Saudi Aramco, whose oil production and export facilities are mostly in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, more than 1,000 km (620 miles) across the country from Jeddah, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

VOA/AFP: Yemen Rebels Claim Saudi Strikes, Threaten New Attack 

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Sunday claimed the attempted strikes that targeted neighboring Saudi Arabia overnight and threatened more attacks, as fighting in the grinding civil war escalates. 

Houthi fighters have intensified operations against the kingdom as air strikes by the Saudi-led military coalition pound rebel positions in the north of Yemen, in a bid to stop their offensive to seize the government's last northern stronghold of Marib. 

Years of war have already pushed Yemen to the brink of famine. Saudi Arabia — which has been backing the Yemeni government against the rebels since 2015 — said Saturday it thwarted a Houthi missile that targeted Riyadh.

Yemen rebels say four of its drones targeted Abha airport located around 120km from the border, leaving an aircraft in flames Yemen's Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Abha airport in southern Saudi Arabia that left a civilian aircraft on fire. 

The Saudi-led coalition said it had later brought the fire under control. 

The rebels said they had targeted the airport, located around 120 km from the border with Yemen, and which has been used by the coalition to launch attacks on Yemen, adding that four drones carried out the attack on Wednesday afternoon.
