CNN: Exclusive: US finalizing plans to send Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine

The Biden administration is finalizing plans to send the Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine that could be announced as soon as this week, according to two US officials and a senior administration official.

The Pentagon’s plan still needs to be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin before it is sent to President Joe Biden for his signature. The three officials told CNN that approval is expected.

Ukraine has been calling for the US to send the advanced long-range air defense system that is highly effective at intercepting ballistic and cruise missiles as it comes under a barrage of Russian missile and drone attacks that have destroyed key infrastructure across the country. It would be the most effective long-range defensive weapons system sent to the country and officials say it will help secure airspace for NATO nations in eastern Europe.

WNU Editor: More escalation. No one has a reverse gear in this war.

This is the first step to implementing a no-fly zone. A no-fly zone enforced by Patriot missile batteries that will probably be manned by US "mercenaries/contractors". You can take this to the bank. Russia will respond.

I thought this system had to be run by Americans only?

Patriots are hi-tech.

But nuclear capable, intercontinental bomber firing cruise missiles from several hundred miles away is not hi-tech. That is not an escalation.

We should give the Ukrainians THAAD. It should the range to fuck up those nuclear bombers orbiting the Caspian Sea firing cruise missile at the electrical grid.

On another note this just proves that Biden is a weakling and scared of his own shadow. You do not throw reinforcements in piecemeal as general rule. These should have been sent last May.

You can now sense the comment of WNU as one sided.

For WNU sending rockets and cruise missile to destroy Ukraine is not an escalation

Exactly, Russia escalated with its attacks on the energy grid . Ukraine has the right to self defence WNU , Sam's are not offensive

The message here? If the Russians are smart, they will start the carpet bombing now instead of waiting. Just saying.

If you look at this war from a completely cold analytical point of view, it is an incessant game of move... counter move. Some of it quite predictable, some not.

The timing and context of WNUs comments make it look a one sided. Even if his comments are in general contextual it does not conceal its motives

Russia had 10 million artillery shells at the start of the war. The orcs burned through 10 million. The Orcs of Angbad could produce 1.7 million shells per year. That was before the war. With war mobilization for a war that was never voted on, the orcs have increased capacity. How much? Double?

If the NORKS and the Iranians cannot make up the difference the Russians will fire 10 million or fewer shells in the next 9 months and then be tapped out. 9 months is a long time. Many of the 7 million shells left are older and may be duds or explode when the rocs handle them.

If Russia keeps losing, the Iranians will get cold feet. They have already deprecated the missiles they are selling Russia.

Another reason carpet bombing makes sense. It is an alternative to arty and missile use on long range and immobile targets. Not as flexible as arty, missile or fast movers, but still very effective.
Wonder what the inventory of dumb bombs looks like? If they have the old soviet stockpiles, it could number in the 100s of thousands. How many of these are still viable. Good question...Who knows?

MR Goldstein is correct. even the ones that we gave the Israelis are manned by US crews.

To use dumb bombs the Russian nuclear bomber have to fly over Ukraine or get near enough to glide bombs in.

That will get them near enough to shoot down.

Yes you are correct.

But stingers will not cut it. Hopefully they have the Hawk systems in place.

shooting something down like a bomber at 30,000 feet is a lot harder than a helo at 2000 ft.

And when those bombs start hitting the target you will feel the earth shake miles away.

Those bombers get near Ukraine they are toast, if they are like Russian tanks.

30,000 feet is no problem to hit those toasters.

Ok. Your world buddy. Are you going to be there to help out? A lot easier said than done.
