Insider: CIA staff made a 'suicide pact' to resign if Trump fired director Gina Haspel, former aide says
* CIA staff pledged to quit if Donald Trump fired its director, Alyssa Farah Griffin said.
* She spoke about the "suicide pact" in testimony to the January 6 committee.
* At the time, Trump was said to be considering replacing Gina Haspel with supporter Kash Patel.
CIA staff had a "suicide pact" to resign if Donald Trump fired director Gina Haspel, a former aide to the president told the House's January 6 select committee.
Alyssa Farah Griffin said that the threat of a mass walkout stopped Trump from replacing Haspel with supporter Kash Patel, according to transcripts released by the committee in late December.
"I will share one thing that I cannot confirm myself, but it's worth looking into," said Farah Griffin, a former director of communications at the White House.
She gave the testimony in April 2022. "I have been told that they tried to fire Gina Haspel, the CIA director, and install Kash Patel."

WNU Editor: If true. And what we now know from the Twitter files. President Trump should have fired Gina Haspel. The US would be in a far better place today with no blood and vision at the top.
In the end Gina Haspel was replaced (fired?) by the Biden White House. And there was no mass resignation.
Don't worry, Gina will still make the top 100 of "Women in leadership".. and she'll be used to paint a picture of success, analytical skill and lots of empathy, of course.. not the torture and crimes she oversaw
ReplyDeleteMaybe next time we can see them off.
ReplyDeleteSo that's one way to drain the swamp. get a president who will fire the heads of all the extra constitutional entities.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it's the same kind of suicide pact they made with Kennedy.
ReplyDelete1. Trump appointed her
ReplyDelete2. the CIA liked her
3. Trump wanted to replace her with a political sidekick, Kash Patel
4. CIA folks agreed to leave if she got fired.
5. Trump backed down.
6. She retired after over 30 years in govt work when Biden took over
In bureaucracies no ambitious man near the top will take a principled stand. She'd have resigned & some of her 'suppirters' would simply be promoted. Keep ducking....
ReplyDeleteDrama at the top level CIA over Trump? BFD. Going political in WDC is a heluva lot easier than finding spies abroad. They've also flubbed just every major foreign policy event. Who cares anymore?
ReplyDeleteThey flubbed every event?
ReplyDeletetip:: when they fail and the failure is public you know about it. When they get done what they set out to do, you do not learn about it.
do you suggest the nation do with out spies? if so, state that
ReplyDeleteHaspel did not articulate the reason for her departure, which comes on the last full day of Trump’s presidency, though Axios reported last week that she had threatened to resign in early December when Trump sought to install loyalist and former Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) aide Kash Patel as her deputy in hopes of pushing Haspel out the agency.
Trump instead installed Patel as chief of staff to acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller, who he reshuffled to the top of the agency after firing Mark Esper post-presidential election.
