U.S. Intelligence Panel Says Havana Syndrome Could Be Caused By Pulsed Energy Devices

The US embassy in Paris, where a number of American diplomats reportedly fell sick in January

VOA: Energy Weapon Only 'Plausible' Explanation for Some Cases of Havana Syndrome

Washington — U.S. intelligence agencies may have ruled out the idea that a rash of mysterious illnesses plaguing American diplomats and other officials is part of a sustained campaign by one of Washington's adversaries, but they now say that in a small number of cases the only likely explanation is the use of some sort of weapon.

A report released Wednesday by a panel of experts assembled by U.S. intelligence officials finds that the core symptoms in these cases are "distinctly unusual and unreported elsewhere in the medical literature," making it highly unlikely the cause could be natural.

"Pulsed electromagnetic energy, particularly in the radiofrequency range, plausibly explains the core characteristics," the report said.

CIA Says 'Havana Syndrome' Is Not Due To A Sustained Campaign By A Hostile Power

NBC: CIA says 'Havana Syndrome' not result of sustained campaign by hostile power

In about two dozen cases, however, the agency can’t rule out foreign involvement, including many of the cases that originated at the U.S. embassy in Havana beginning in 2016.

In a new intelligence assessment, the CIA has ruled out that the mysterious symptoms known as Havana Syndrome are the result of a sustained global campaign by a hostile power aimed at hundreds of American diplomats and spies, six people briefed on the matter tell NBC News.

In about two dozen cases, the agency can’t rule out foreign involvement, including many of the cases that originated at the U.S. embassy in Havana beginning in 2016. Another group of cases is considered unresolved.

But in hundreds of other cases of possible symptoms, the agency has found plausible, alternate explanations, the sources said. The CIA declined to comment.

* A similar incident occurred in Paris, where senior embassy officials informed diplomats and encouraged others to report any unusual symptoms

* In response to the new reported incidents U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the entire federal government is working to get to the bottom of the illness

* There have been 200 reported cases of the yet unexplained illness, colloquially named for its first reported case in 2016 at the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba

CIA Director Warns The Kremlin Of Consequences If They Are The Cause Of 'Havana Syndrome'

CIA Director in Moscow. © The Security Council of the Russian Federation

Daily Mail: CIA chief 'issues warning to Russian spies over Havana Syndrome': Director William J. Burns told Moscow's intelligence services they would face 'consequences' if they were behind mysterious illnesses, officials say

* CIA chief William J. Burns reportedly issued a bold warning to Russia's two top intelligence agencies earlier this month during a visit to Moscow's Kremlin

* The CIA director said there will be 'consequences' if the US finds out Russia is behind hundreds of Havana Syndrome cases, officials said

* The fact the CIA head worded the warning with the conditional 'if,' suggests that the US government is still confounded as to the cause of the unusual incidents

* The director's decision to issue such a comment suggests his organization has a deep-rooted suspicion of the country's culpability for the unexplained cases

* Burn's warning comes as the FBI acknowledged for the first time Tuesday that some of its agents may be suffering from Havana Syndrome

* The revelation comes after an ex-agent reportedly complained to the agency that he was experiencing symptoms concurrent with the mysterious affliction

* The unnamed agent, who asked not to be identified out of fear it would affect how the FBI handles his case, said he was stationed near Russia when he got sick

* The statement currently stands as the FBI's first formal acknowledgment that some of its current or former employees could be suffering from the syndrome

* Many experts and officials posit that the syndrome is man-made, and originated from Russia

* The agent said he had been stationed at an embassy that came under a suspected Russian electronic jamming attack that disrupted communications

The director of the CIA reportedly issued a bold warning to Russia's two top intelligence agencies earlier this month, saying that there will be 'consequences' if the US government finds out that they are behind the hundreds of Havana Syndrome cases afflicting US diplomats and spies across the globe.

The threat, delivered by CIA Director William J. Burns during a recent visit to Moscow this month, was directed at the country's foremost intelligence agencies, the Federal Security Service, or the FSB, and the Foreign Intelligence Service - the SVR.

FBI Admits For The First Time That Some Employees May Have Symptoms Of Havana Syndrome

NBC News: FBI acknowledges some agents may have Havana Syndrome symptoms

After NBC News obtained internal emails, the FBI publicly acknowledged for the first time that some employees may have symptoms of Havana Syndrome.

The FBI is promising to make sure employees who have symptoms consistent with Havana Syndrome get access to medical care after a former agent suffering almost daily headaches was rebuffed when he sought testing and treatment, according to documents obtained by NBC News.

In an email last month, an FBI official told a former agent who had reported possible brain injury symptoms that "unfortunately, the FBI is not authorized to give any medical advice and there are not any medical programs in place for current and/or retired employees."

The agent began suffering migraines and dizziness about a decade ago after a stint overseas in a country near Russia.

The Embassy of the United States of America in Cuba, which is where Havana Syndrome was first allegedly encountered

Daily Mail: All in the mind? How the mysterious Havana Syndrome is a 'global experiment in mass suggestion' and NOT targeted attacks expert claims

* There are cases across the world, but expert says it's all in the mind

* Targeting a huge hotel with soundwaves 'defies the laws of physics'

* Mass psychogenic illness documented as far back as the middle ages

* The Philippines government used Katy Perry songs to break up a riot

* Is Havana Syndrome really just a case of hearing cicadas and crickets?

* What has the Cold War, dog poo and mosquitos got to do with it all?

Since Havana Syndrome emerged in late 2016, the US government has made the mysterious phenomenon an intelligence priority and spent tens of millions of dollars investigating potential microwave weapon attacks by foreign adversaries.

But medical sociology expert Dr Robert Bartholomew is so convinced it's a case of mass delusion, he's co-authored a book on it with Robert Baloh - Havana Syndrome: Mass Psychogenic Illness and the Real Story Behind the Embassy Mystery and Hysteria.

CIA Director's Team Member Suffers Havana Syndrome Symptoms During India Trip

CNN: Member of CIA chief's team reported Havana syndrome symptoms on recent trip to India

Washington (CNN)When CIA Director Bill Burns traveled to India earlier this month a member of his team reported symptoms consistent with Havana syndrome and had to receive medical attention, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

The incident set off alarm bells within the US government and left Burns "fuming" with anger, one source explained. Some officials at the CIA viewed the chilling episode as a direct message to Burns that no one is safe, including those working directly for the nation's top spy, two sources said.

The event marks the second time in less than a month that reported cases of the mysterious illness have impacted the international travel of top Biden administration officials. Last month Vice President Kamala Harris's visit to Vietnam was slightly delayed when multiple US personnel reported symptoms consistent with the syndrome just ahead of her visit, and at least two of them had to be medevaced.
