More than 10 million people have been reported illegally entering the United States since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, the greatest number in history and of any administration. 

They total more than the individual populations of 41 states. 

The number of people illegally entering the country surged after Biden and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas halted many preexisting border security policies, advanced sweeping parole and other policies to release the greatest number of illegal foreign nationals into the country, encouraged people from all over the world to use a phone app to enter the U.S., and facilitated U.S. entry application processes in foreign countries, among others.

In line with a campaign promise, Biden said he would set at 125,000 the cap on admissions as part of the country's refugee resettlement program, against the current 15,000.

'We offered safe havens for those fleeing violence or persecution' in previous years, when America's 'moral leadership on refugee issues' encouraged other nations to open their doors as well, Biden said.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- As the European Union debuts a new migration pact, Gallup finds the world growing less accepting of migrants, and a number of EU countries topping the list of the least-accepting countries in the world. 

Overall, the world is slightly less accepting of migrants today than it was three years ago, according to Gallup's latest update of its Migrant Acceptance Index. Between 2016 and 2019, the global score on the index, which gauges people's acceptance of migrants based on increasing degrees of personal proximity to migrants, declined from 5.34 to 5.21. 

Many of the countries leading the global downturn have been on the receiving end of the mass exodus of Venezuelans fleeing the humanitarian crisis in their country. Scores dropped more than two full points in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, which have absorbed millions of Venezuelans since 2015. Initially, many of the migrants and refugees were welcomed in these countries, but public sentiment started to turn against them as their economies, and their health, education and social assistance programs buckled under the strain.

Jerusalem Post: Canada denies Arab media report it will take in 100,000 Palestinians

According to report, Canada would receive 100,000 Palestinians from Lebanon and Syria and Spain would receive 16,000 Palestinians from Lebanon, alongside similar agreements with Belgium and France.

Canada denied a report in the Lebanon-based newspaper Al Akhbar on Wednesday according to which the country has reached an understanding with the United States that it will receive 100,000 Palestinians (40,000 from Lebanon and another 60,000 from Syria).

The Lebanese paper quoted a source in a Palestinian faction. The paper claimed that there is a further understanding with Spain to receive 16,000 Palestinians from Lebanon, alongside similar agreements with Belgium and France. The understandings would lead to the reduction of the cost of migration from $12,000 to $7,000 per person.

WNU Editor: I first heard about this over the weekend. And now the Israeli press is reporting on it. The Canadian government has denied these reports, but this is not surprising since there is going to be an election in seven weeks, and the issue of open borders does not poll well with Trudeau's government. I personally believe there is some truth to this. In the past three years Canada has opened the doors to tens of thousands of refugees from the Middle East, so why not more. AFP: New Quebec law stresses migrants' skills, thousands must reapply

Montreal (AFP) - The Quebec provincial legislature on Sunday approved a controversial immigration bill that will replace a first-come, first-served standard for accepting migrants with one tied to an applicants' skills.

The law is similar to a proposed plan from US President Donald Trump that would shift his country's visa system from family-based immigration towards bringing in more skilled workers.

The law will attempt to more closely match the skills offered by would-be immigrants with the needs of the labor market in Quebec, Canada's second most-populous province.

Under the new law, some 18,000 applications now on file will be shredded, affecting as many as 50,000 people, many of whom already live in the province.

The 18,000 existing applicants will have to restart the immigration process.

Moscow Times: Record Number of Russians Want to Emigrate – Gallup

A record one-fifth of Russians would like to leave the country if they could, a threefold increase from five years ago, the Gallup pollster said Thursday.

Public polling inside Russia has indicated in recent years that between 17 and 20 percent of Russians were willing to migrate. Official data, which has been criticized for downplaying immigration figures, says Russia’s emigration numbers have reached a six-year record.

In Gallup's 2018 poll, 20 percent of Russian respondents said they would like to leave Russia if they could.

The share of Russians seeking to move permanently to another country had never passed Gallup’s 17-percent high in 2007, the U.S. pollster’s results say. However, this number has grown steadily over the past five years, tripling from 7 percent in 2014 to 20 percent in 2018.

WNU Editor: These numbers tell only a part of the story. They do not include international students studying in Canada who apply for Canadian citizenship when they finish their degrees (there are 350,000 international student each year in Canada)). Nor do these numbers include work visas given to foreigners to work in Canada (and the number is hundreds of thousands per year), who also usually end up taking Canadian citizenship. From what I have heard .... the real number is closer to 2 million (and maybe more) immigrants becoming Canadians, and not 1 million over the next three years. The impact of this open border policy is already being felt in Canada's major cities. These people have to live somewhere, hence housing and rents are becoming out of reach even more so for most Canadians. I can only speak for Montreal where I live, and rents here have exploded in the past few years, and purchasing a house on the island of Montreal is now next to impossible for most families. I know the Trudeau government believes this is a winning issue for them in this year's election. But in Montreal where I live .... and Montreal is a Trudeau stronghold, there is no support for this, and outside of Montreal in the province of Quebec, even less so.

"In 2012-2017, more than one million people were granted Russian citizenship, with 525,000 receiving citizenship in accordance with a state program aimed at facilitating the voluntary resettlement of compatriots living abroad. The net migration reached 1.6 mln during that period," the document reads.

WNU Editor: I live in Canada, and a few blocks from my home are a row of apartment buildings that act essentially as a dumping ground for illegal immigrants to stay in Canada until their immigration/asylum case is heard (which takes a long time). I would say that almost half the women who are there are pregnant. Is birthright citizenship being abused in Canada .... from my part of the world I would have to say yes. Is it being abused in the U.S. .... I would not be surprised. I know in Europe .... the U.K., France, etc. .... these countries eliminated birthright citizenship a few years ago. Russian citizenship is interesting. If one of your parents were a Soviet citizen and you were born abroad, you can claim Russian citizenship even though you never lived there.

The percentage of the U.S population that is immigrant has reached the highest level in 107 years, with nearly one-in-seven being foreign born, according to new data from the Census Bureau.

San Diego County could become a destination for tens of thousands of unauthorized immigrants to be housed indefinitely by the U.S. Government, under the zero-tolerance policy implemented by President Donald Trump.

According to a report published Friday afternoon by Time magazine, military leaders are drawing up plans to create a tent city at Camp Pendleton to detain as many as 47,000 illegal immigrants from Central America and other locations over the coming months.

The facility at Camp Pendleton would be one of multiple temporary detention centers designated to house immigrants making their way into the United States.

According to an internal memo obtained by Time magazine, the U.S. Navy has been directed to establish “temporary and austere” encampments on military installations in Alabama, Arizona, and California that each could host tens of thousands of detainees.

Reuters: Democrats withdraw offer to fund Trump's border wall

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats said on Tuesday they had withdrawn an offer to fund U.S. President Donald Trump’s border wall, as tough negotiations over the future of young illegal immigrants known as “Dreamers” resumed in the Senate.

A day after the end of a government shutdown linked to wrangling over immigration, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said he pulled the offer because of what he said was Trump’s failure to follow through on the outlines of an agreement the two men discussed last Friday.

”So we’re going to have to start on a new basis and the wall offer is off the table,” Schumer told reporters. An aide said the offer was pulled on Sunday.

It is a globalized world. A person can circle the earth in 36 hours, and an idea can do the same in 36 minutes. The value of international flows of goods, services and finances is today around $30 trillion a year and could triple by 2025. In 2015, the level of global foreign direct investment topped $1.7 trillion with about 60 percent of that amount going to developed countries. The same year, over $700 billion in cross-border mergers and acquisitions were completed. Applications for international patents, trademarks and industrial designs are all growing at a rapid rate. Annually, the number of international tourists is well over one billion, that of trans-border immigrants now tops 200 million, and the number of students studying abroad is around five million.

WNU Editor: There are many reasons why countries want to secure its borders .... terrorism and security is one of them. There are also cultural factors at play, as well as economic. My prediction .... what will ultimately force countries (primarily first world countries) to secure their borders will be due to economic reasons. Case in point .... I live in Canada, and in this country the government has just implemented a goal of admitting over one million immigrants in the next 3 years. Housing is already tight and very expensive in this country .... where (and how) are you going to house these people? To put it bluntly .... you cannot .... but it will dramatically increase rents and the cost of homes for existing Canadians. I can also add in how this is going to impact wages (primarily in the service industry), as well as increasing the costs involved in education and health care. And this is all happening under "controlled immigration" and a "secured" border. Bottom line .... most people in the world live in poverty and have little hope to improve their lives because of the country that they live in. The desire to improve one's life is part of the human condition .... and to go where that is possible is what is driving the flow of immigration today. As I have remarked a few times in this blog ... in the case of Europe .... if the current borders and controls were not there .... the Europeans will be facing a million plus immigrants from Africa and the Middle East per month .... and that would be just the beginning.

U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Rules Against President Trump's Revised Travel Ban

L.A. Times: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals refuses to reinstate Trump's travel ban

A federal appeals court on Monday refused to lift a hold on President Trump’s revised travel order barring new visas for nationals from six predominantly Muslim countries.

The unanimous, unsigned ruling by a three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals was the latest in a string of legal defeats the administration has suffered. The administration has said it will take its case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The travel order issue is already before the Supreme Court because of a separate ruling against Trump issued last month by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals based in Richmond, Va.

The 9th Circuit said Trump’s revised executive order failed to justify a need for the ban and violated a 1965 federal immigration law that bars discrimination based on nationality.

Canada Is Becoming A Destination Of Choice For Migrants

CTV: Canada-U.S. treaty has hundreds of asylum seekers crossing Quebec border illegally

Through back roads and in taxis, hundreds of immigrants are making their way across the border between Quebec and the United States illegally, according to Canadian Border Services Agency statistics.

The numbers show an explosion in the amount of asylum claims being made at CBSA land border ports of entry within the province, with 452 claims being made in January. That’s more than three times the amount made during that time period the year before and almost 10 times as many as were made in 2014 or 2015.

Many of those who cross illegally are then arrested by RCMP officers, confirmed a spokesperson.

WNU Editor: A few blocks from where I live in Montreal are a row of apartment buildings that house refugees .... the place has been packed since the arrival of Syrian refugees last year, but new arrivals keep on coming. The word is also out that Canada has a very generous welfare system that caters to refugees (which it does when compared to other countries) .... and with Prime Minister Trudeau's invitation to these migrants to come to Canada (because of Trump) .... the perception is that the Canadian border is now open. For someone like myself who tries his best to help people to come to Canada legally .... this is very frustrating. These new people are jumping the que line .... and in turn we are punishing those who follow the law and wish to enter Canada properly and legally by taking resources away from them to accommodate these new arrivals. I am also not buying the excuse that these migrants make that they are coming to Canada because the U.S. is now a dangerous place for them (because of Trump). Canada is a far easier place to start a new life than in the U.S. .... these migrants know that and are now trying their best to take advantage of it. The sad part of this story .... it is not easy to claim refugee status in Canada when you are from the U.S. .... Asylum seekers fleeing U.S. face further hurdles here (CBC). No one is telling these migrants, but when you have exhausted your appeals (which takes a long time) .... you will probably be deported back to the U.S.. My prediction .... this surge in migrants is just starting, and the animosity towards these migrants .... especially among French Quebecers who do not like outsiders .... will be growing.

The Hill: Trump hints at new travel order coming next week

President Trump said Friday he will take action as soon as next week to bolster national security in response to a court ruling blocking his travel ban.

"We'll be doing something very rapidly having to do with additional security for our country," Trump said during a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. "You’ll be seeing that some time next week.”

Trump declined to say what such a move would entail. White House aides would not elaborate further on Trump’s comments.

His remarks came after reports indicated the White House is considering drafting a new executive order that could clear legal hurdles.

A federal appeals court ruled unanimously that the U.S. will remain open to refugees and visa holders from seven Muslim-majority countries, rejecting a bid by the Trump administration to reinstate a travel ban in the name of national security.

The San Francisco-based appeals court on Thursday spurned the government’s request to close the doors after days of public debate over President Donald Trump’s attacks on the judicial system and a rush of fearful immigrants. The ruling increases the likelihood that the administration will ask the Supreme Court to step into a case that’s the biggest test of Trump’s executive power yet.

WNU Editor: So much for the executive being responsible for foreign policy and controlling one's borders .... this court has just denied what the Office of the U.S. President has been responsible for generations. What's my prediction for the future .... when courts act like this ..... social transformation without representation .... there are always consequences .... and most of the time they never turn out good. I expect the U.S. government will now either go to the Supreme Court, or they will amend the executive order to satisfy the concerns of the court and moot this case either tonight or tomorrow (which I expect they will) .... but this battle is just starting.

The US State Department is rushing to let in refugees from the 7 countries that are covered by President Trump's executive order .... 77% of refugees allowed into U.S. since travel reprieve hail from seven suspect countries (Washington Times).
