Iran Test Fires Short-Range 'Smart' Missile

Press TV (Iran): Iran test-fires new smart missile with strike range of 300km: Ground Force commander 

The commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Force has announced the test-firing of a medium-range smart missile that can fly as far as 300 kilometers (186 miles). 

Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari made the announcement on Sunday, without specifying the location, where the missile was being tested by the Ground Force’s missile unit.

“The missile is prepared for deployment in defense of our homeland,” he added, noting that the test-firing was gauging the missile's precision of strike and destruction power.

Iran Tests Suicide Drones That Resemble The Drones That Were Used To attack Saudi Arabia In 2019

Daily Mail: Iran carries out 'Great Prophet 15' ballistic missile drill featuring kamikaze drones that closely resemble those used in 2019 attacks on Saudi Arabia 

 * Weaponry used in the drill resembled that used in a 2019 attack on Saudi Arabia 
 * Iran denied involvement in the attack but the US, Saudi Arabia and UN experts believed the drones were Iranian-made 
 * Friday's drill reportedly took place in the Great Salt Desert in central Iran 
 * It comes at a time of heightened tension between Iran and the United States

Iran's Revolutionary Guard launched a missile and drone drill on Friday featuring wedge-shaped suicide drones that strongly resemble the craft used to attack a Saudi oil facility in 2019. 

The 'Great Phrophet 15' exercises also saw the IRGC launch around a dozen ballistic missiles from the back of mobile launchers positioned in the desert. 

Iran has long-denied carrying out the Abqaiq-Khurais attack which saw global oil supply lines temporarily cut after drones and cruise missiles slammed into Saudi Arabia's largest oil processing refinery and a nearby oil field.

During Iranian Military Exercise Missiles Land Within 20 Miles Of A Commercial Ship And 100 Miles From The USS Nimitz Strike Group In The Indian Ocean

 Daily Mail: Iranian missiles land within 20 miles of a commercial ship and 100 miles from the USS Nimitz in Indian Ocean - but officials state that the launch wasn't seen as a threat 

 * At least one missile landed 20 miles from the commercial vessel 
 * American spy satellites did track the missile launch from the Islamic Republic, but it is unclear if the Nimitz aircraft carrier tracked the launch 
 * Nimitz has been positioned in the northern Arabian Sea on President Trump's order through the inauguration 
 * The Nimitz was ordered not to return home by the Pentagon this month, instead told to remain in the area 
 * Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that its' long-range ballistic missiles fired off Saturday and flew over 1,000miles into the northern portion of the Indian Ocean 

Long-range missiles from Iran splashed roughly 100miles from the Nimitz aircraft carrier, hitting close to a commercial ship in the Indian Ocean. 

At least one missile landed 20 miles from the commercial vessel, according to anonymous U.S. officials who would not provide further info about the ship. 

Iran does typically test missiles and one source did share with Fox News that the projectile did not cause alarm and was a fairly standard routine exercise.

Iran Conducts Massive Naval War Games

 


IRAN has put on a dramatic display of its naval strength using cruise missiles and torpedoes to blow up ships in drills aimed at warning off “encroaching enemies”. 

Large explosions at sea feature in the Iranian navy’s latest footage as missiles launch from land units and military ships. 

The cruise missiles can be seen blasting into the air, before arching down to their targets.

Billowing plumes of smoke blast into the sky above the sea as the hit ships are blown to pieces. 

Iran fired the cruise missiles and torpedoes on Thursday as part of a naval drill in the Gulf of Oman, Press TV reported, amid heightened tensions with the US.

Iran Conducts It's 1st Large-Scale Drone Combat Exercise

 


 DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran launched exercises featuring a wide array of domestically produced drones on Tuesday, Iranian media reported, days after the anniversary of the U.S. killing of a top Iranian general by a drone strike in Iraq. 

Iran and the regional forces it backs have increasingly relied in recent years on drones in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Gulf.

Iran’s armed forces are to test combat drones used as bombers, interceptors and in reconnaissance missions in the two-day exercises in central Semnan province, the semi-official Fars news agency said.

Iran Posts High-Resolution Satellite Images Of US Base In Qatar


Iran Front Page: Iran’s Military Satellite Takes High-Resolution Images of US Base in Qatar

The military satellite Noor, sent into orbit by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), has taken clear mosaic images of Al-Udeid Air Base, the forward headquarters of the US military’s Central Command in Qatar.

Photos released by IRGC-affiliated news agencies show that the satellite has taken high-resolution mosaic images of Al-Udeid Air Base.

Earlier, the US military had said that ballistic missile fire detected from the IRGC‘s ongoing war games in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz has resulted in US troops being put on alert at Al-Udeid Air Base and Al-Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

“The incident lasted for a matter of minutes and an all clear was declared after the threat … had passed,” said Central Command spokeswoman Beth Riordan.

Times of Israel: Iranian Guards fire missile at mock aircraft carrier amid US tensions

Iran releases video showing military exercises held by paramilitary force in Strait of Hormuz, where American aircraft carrier passed through last week

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard fired a missile from a helicopter targeting a replica aircraft carrier in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, state television reported on Tuesday, an exercise aimed at threatening the US amid tensions between Tehran and Washington.

The drill, in a waterway through which 20 percent of all traded oil passes, underlines the lingering threat of military conflict between Iran and the US after last summer saw a series of incidents targeting oil tankers in the region. In January, a US drone strike killed a top Iranian general in Baghdad and Tehran responded by firing ballistic missiles targeting American forces in Iraq.

Iranian Warship Hit By Missile In Friendly Fire Accident, Killing 19 Sailors And Wounding 15 (Updated)



Daily Mail: Iranian navy accidentally shoot one of their own warships with a missile during training exercise, killing 19 and leaving 15 injured

* Iranian frigate Jamaran accidentally opened fire on support ship during training
* Noor cruise missile struck the Konarak, killing 19 sailors and leaving 15 injured
* Konarak had been positioning targets for the Janaran to fire at but remained too close to one of them and was accidentally targeted, state-run media said
* Comes after Iran accidentally shot down a passenger plane over Tehran this year

An Iranian warship has accidentally opened fire on one of its own support vessels during a training exercise in the Gulf of Oman, killing 19 and leaving 15 injured.

The Jamaran, a frigate, had been attempting to hit a target with one of its Noor cruise missiles when it accidentally struck a support ship named Konarak instead.

The Konarak had been placing targets for the Janaran to hit but remained too close to one of them causing the missile to lock on to it by mistake, state-run media said.

Iran Says Its Missiles Can Hit U.S. Ships More Than 400 Miles Away. Boasts Its Boats Are Three Times Faster

Newsweek: Iran Says Its Missiles Can Hit Ships More Than 400 Miles Away, Has Boats Three Times Faster Than U.S. Navy

Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard announced enhanced capabilities for its naval fleet, including extended anti-ship missile range and faster vessels capable of outpacing its top rival, the United States.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy commander Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said Monday that his forces now "have a variety of surface-to-surface missiles with a range of 700 km [more than 430 miles] produced domestically." He also touted the production of new warships, such as the 55-meter catamaran-style helicopter carrier inaugurated in 2016, along with other vessels that are said to be capable of reading speeds of up to 90 knots, or "three times faster than American vessels."

"Wherever the Americans have been present, insecurity has arisen, and we do not know where the presence of the United States has led to security," Tangsiri said.

Iran Showcases New Drones That Can Reach Israel

Iran has acquired three bomb-carrying drones with a range of 932 miles as tensions with the US escalate following the killing of General Soleimani.

Defence Minister Amir Hatami said the killer drones can monitor 'enemy movements from a considerable distance' and are capable of combat missions.

Speaking at the delivery ceremony in Tehran, the aircraft were equipped with bombs and missiles, and they can fly at an altitude of up to 45,000ft.

The drones were manufactured by Iran's military industry with the help of local universities, the defence minister proclaimed on state television.

Iran's Navy Wants New Submarines And A Destroyer

Forbes: Iranian Navy Building New Submarines And A 6,000-Ton Destroyer

The Iranian Navy’s latest homegrown warship projects include “giant submarines” and a large destroyer, Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari, Head of the Iranian Defense Ministry's Marine Industries Organization, said in a recent interview with Iranian media.

“Giant submarines” likely refers to normal size boats in other navies. Iran is experienced at building submarines with the 527-ton Fateh Class being their main achievement. Logically the new boats will be larger follow-ons, possibly in the range of 2,000 to 3,000 tons. This is similar to the three Russian-built Kilo class submarines already in Iranian service.

Defense One: Iran Is Getting Ready to Blow Up A Fake Aircraft Carrier, Again

To test weapons, try out tactics, and intimidate adversaries, Iranian forces may attack its barge-borne “carrier” as soon as March.

The escalating shows of force between the United States and Iran could soon take a theatrical turn. Satellite photos from Planet Labs, obtained exclusively by Defense One, show that Iran has recently completed repairs on a mock aircraft carrier that it could destroy as part of an elaborate military exercise, later in the spring.

The “carrier” — a highly-detailed superstructure built on a barge — was heavily damaged in a February 2015 exercise. Last August, Planet’s satellites first captured workers moving the barge inside the breakwaters at Bandar Abbas naval base. Subsequent imagery showed that the Iranians beginning work in October, with deck and latticework nearly completed by December and January.

TEHRAN (Sputnik) - Any spying aircraft spotted in the area of joint drills of Iran, Russia, China will be destroyed, the Coordinating Deputy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, Habibollah Sayyari, told Tasnim news agency on Saturday.

"Many countries are definitely seeking to know what the matter is. Spies have also taken action. A joint war game is no joke, and this is no joking matter for us either. We will hit whatever spying craft in the war game zone, be it watercraft or aircraft, as we have proved having such a capability in the past," he said.

Will Iran's Military Buildup Bankrupt The Country?

While Iran’s rulers have no aspirations to be a superpower, they do seem to covet being a regional hegemon as the Persian Empire was. So far, Iran has waged war on the cheap by using proxies rather than massive troop commitments as the U.S. did in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. But as Hezbollah has discovered when its Iranian subsidies were slashed, even war on the cheap can be expensive.

Iran’s military is switching from unconventional warfare to more conventional weapons.

That means more ballistic missiles to hit its enemies, as well as mines and other naval weapons to close the Persian Gulf to oil tankers, according to a new report on Iranian military power by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s pet spy service.

But the question is whether Tehran can afford to develop these capabilities.

On screen, the small robot slides perfectly underneath the textureless tank. It is a modern iteration of an old promise in remote warfare, rendered with all the processing power of a desktop PC from 1994. Can a small, cheap robot prove useful against the vehicles of an enemy at war?

A recent exhibition of unmanned ground vehicles by Iran suggests that the possibility, if not the reality, is already in development.

Designed by the Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization of the Iranian Army, the Heidair-1 is almost certainly bound for life as an expendable battlefield platform.

Iran Unveils A New Reconnaissance And Attack Drone


Al Jazeera: Iran unveils high-precision reconnaissance and attack drone

Dubbed the 'Kian', unmanned drone can fly over 1,000km and climb to an altitude of 5,000 metres, officials say.

Iran has unveiled the "Kian", a new high-precision drone that can locate and attack targets far from the country's borders, according to officials.

Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard displayed the unmanned aerial vehicle at a ceremony in the capital, Tehran, saying it can fly more than 1,000km and climb to an altitude of 5,000 metres, according to state media.

The jet-propelled drone comes in two models capable of "surveillance and reconnaissance missions and continuous flight for precision missions," state news agency IRNA quoted him as saying on Sunday.

'The drill is a real one because the battlefield, enemy, and the fighters are real'

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps' ground forces kicked off a "massive" set of war drills Thursday as the country unveiled its own homemade version of Russia's advanced S-300 missile defense system in yet another showing of Tehran's growing readiness for a possible war.

Iranian military leaders said the war games will mix with actual fighting as the IRGC forces seek to cleanse what they described as "anti-revolutionary terrorist groups" from along the country's borders. The operations follow an attack on IRGC units in July that killed one and injured one other.

Iran has unveiled a new air defence system today which it says is capable of detecting missiles and drones at a range of 250 miles.

The 'Falagh' is a locally overhauled version of the imported 'Gamma' surveillance radar, the country's semi-official news agency ISNA said, in an apparent reference to a Russian-made system of that name.

It had been inoperable due to 'sanctions, lack of spare parts and the inability of foreign engineers to carry out repairs', it added.

Radio Farda: Khamenei Orders 25 Military Bases To Be Moved Out Of Cities In Iran

Iran’s ministry of roads and urban development has announced that Islamic Republic Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has ordered 25 military bases to be moved out of cities.

The website of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has reported that the military bases will receive alternative venues and the current properties they occupy will be used for urban development.

The website says Iran’s parliament approved a law nine years ago to move military bases and barracks out of urban centers, but the full implementation of the law has faced problems, especially in the capital Tehran.
