Attacks On U.S. Churches Nearly Triple In 4 Years

Daily Signal: ‘An Atmosphere of Lawlessness’: Attacks on Churches Nearly Triple in 4 Years, New Report Finds

A Christian leader has blasted the Biden administration for “creating an atmosphere of lawlessness” by ignoring attacks on churches and houses of worship nationwide, which have nearly tripled over the last four years, according to a startling new report.

These assaults ranged from deadly to defacing, covered every region of the country and denominational background, and often sprang from pro-abortion domestic terrorism or other forms of left-wing enmity against biblical morality.

Offenders committed at least 420 acts of hostility against 397 separate churches in the United States between January 2018 and September 2022. These cases include everything from arson and gun-related violence to vandalism and bomb threats, the copiously documented, 84-page report specifies.

Pope Says Meeting With Russian Orthodox Patriarch Scrapped Because Of The Russia - Ukraine War

Photos show Pope Francis (right) and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill (left) meeting in Havana 2016. The Pope was scheduled to meet the Russian Patriarch again in June, but he cancelled the meeting in an announcement on Friday

Daily Mail: Pope Francis scraps his planned meeting with Russia's Putin-backing Patriarch Kirill over fears it could 'lend itself to much confusion'

* Pope Francis, 85, has cancelled his plans to meet the Russian Orthodox leader

* Patriarch Kirill, an ally of Putin's, was scheduled to meet the Pope in Lebanon

* Vatican diplomats advised that such a meeting could lead to 'much confusion'

* Francis said earlier this month that he was considering travelling to Kyiv

* Their initial meeting in 2016 was the first between a pope and a leader of the Russian Orthodox Church since the Great Schism that split Christianity in 1054

Pope Francis has said he has dropped plans to meet in June with Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin who has backed Moscow's war in Ukraine.

Francis, who has several times implicitly criticised Russia and Putin over the war, told Argentine newspaper La Nacion in an interview that he regretted that the plan had to be 'suspended' because Vatican diplomats advised that such a meeting 'could lend itself to much confusion at this moment'.

The Week: Putin quotes Jesus to justify invasion of Ukraine

During a pro-war rally in Moscow on Friday night, Russian President Vladimir Putin invoked the words of Jesus Christ in order to justify his invasion of Ukraine.

Moscow police said more than 200,000 people attended the rally, Al Jazeera reported. Polling shows that a majority of Russians support the war in Ukraine, which has already left numerous Ukrainian civilians displaced, injured, and dead.

Speaking to the crowd in a turtleneck and down winter coat, Putin said he ordered the invasion "to get people out of their misery, out of this genocide, that is the main reason, the motive and purpose of the military operation that we began in Donbas and Ukraine," according to The Washington Post. Russia has repeatedly accused the Ukrainian government of committing genocide in separatist-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine.

"And this is where the words from the Scriptures come to my mind: 'There is no greater love than if someone gives his soul for his friends,'" Putin continued, paraphrasing John 15:13.

The Russian View On The Notre Dame Fire

Moscow Times: Notre Dame Fire Symbolizes Europe's Decline, Russian Commentators Say

Russian condolences poured in after a fire tore through the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in the heart of Paris late on Monday, but some commentators in the country said the inferno symbolized the decline of Europe.

Firefighters doused the smoldering ruins of the eight-centuries-old Gothic cathedral with water on Tuesday as investigators tried to establish what started the fire, Reuters reported. The blaze consumed the roof and caused the cathedral’s spire to collapse before firefighters brought the flames under control in eight hours, saving its bell towers and outer walls.

Muscovites brought flowers to the French Embassy as a show of support in the wake of the fire. The first red carnations appeared outside the embassy as early as Monday evening, according to the state-run RIA Novosti news agency. At Russia’s largest Catholic church, worshippers in Moscow held a service in honor of the badly damaged cathedral.

WNU Editor: This is my view also. The Notre Dame fire will become a symbol to many on the decline of Western Europe. This is also a good reason on why it should be rebuilt ASAP.

European Churches Are Being Vandalized, Defecated On, And Put On Fire "Every Day"

Gatestone Institute: European Churches: Vandalized, Defecated On, and Torched "Every Day"

* In Germany, four separate churches were vandalized and/or torched in March alone. "In this country," PI-News, a German news site, explained, "there is a creeping war against everything that symbolizes Christianity: attacks on mountain-summit crosses, on sacred statues by the wayside, on churches... and recently also on cemeteries."

* In virtually every instance of church attacks, authorities and media obfuscate the identity of the vandals. In those rare instances when the Muslim (or "migrant") identity of the destroyers is leaked, the desecraters are then presented as suffering from mental health issues.

* "Hardly anyone writes and speaks about the increasing attacks on Christian symbols. There is an eloquent silence in both France and Germany about the scandal of the desecrations and the origin of the perpetrators.... Not a word, not even the slightest hint that could in anyway lead to the suspicion of migrants... It is not the perpetrators who are in danger of being ostracized, but those who dare to associate the desecration of Christian symbols with immigrant imports. They are accused of hatred, hate speech and racism." -- PI News, March 24, 2019

Could Arson Be Responsible For The Notre Dame Cathedral Fire?

Reuters: No sign of arson in Notre-Dame blaze as nation grieves for symbol

PARIS (Reuters) - The fire that tore through Notre-Dame cathedral was probably caused by accident, French prosecutors said on Tuesday after firefighters doused the last flames in the ruins overnight and the nation grieved for the destruction of one of its symbols.

More than 400 firemen were needed to tame the inferno that consumed the roof and collapsed the spire of the eight-centuries-old cathedral. They worked through the night to extinguish the fire some 14 hours after it began.

Paris public prosecutor Remy Heitz said there was no obvious indication the fire was arson. Fifty people were working on what would be a long and complex investigation. One firefighter was injured but no one else was hurt in the blaze which began after the building was closed to the public for the evening.

WNU Editor: The political and media rush to deny arson being responsible for the Notre Dame Cathedral fire is quite a sight to see. No one knows what caused the fire, and an investigation has not even started. But the conclusion on every major news network is already been made that this was an "accident".

A Visual Map Of The World’s Major Religions

Open Culture: A Visual Map of the World’s Major Religions (and Non-Religions)

“The nones are growing,” we hear all the time, a reference to the huge increase in people who check the “none” box in documents that ask about religious beliefs. In the U.S., at least, the response to this news seems to be fivefold: fear, denial, anger, celebration, and speculation that can seem to go beyond what the data warrants. National Geographic, for example, trumpets “The World’s Newest Major Religion: No Religion,” though it’s not exactly clear what no religion means.

Do Those Who Experience War Become More Religious?

Phys.org: Study shows that many who experience trauma of war become increasingly religious

It's been said that there are no atheists in foxholes, but a new study led by Joseph Henrich has shown that the impact of war on religion extends well beyond the front lines.

The chair of the Department of Human and Evolutionary Biology, Henrich and a team of international collaborators gathered survey data from several locations around the globe and found that, following the trauma of seeing a friend or loved one killed or injured during conflict, many became more religious. The study is described in a Jan. 28 paper published in Nature Human Behavior.

"I became interested in this question through my prior work, which has been focused on how religious beliefs can cause people to cooperate more in a group," Henrich said. "The idea is that if you can expand the sphere of cooperation, then that group can more successfully compete against others, sometimes even through violent conflict.

Norse Paganism Is Alive And Well Aboard The U.S. Aircraft Carrier USS John C. Stennis

Military.com: Sailors Hold Heathen Religious Services Aboard Deployed Aircraft Carrier

If you're deployed aboard the carrier John C. Stennis and consider yourself a practitioner of Norse paganism, you're in luck. The carrier, now operating in the Persian Gulf, is holding lay services in the ship's chapel to serve a "small, committed" group of sailors identifying as Heathens, according to a recent news release from the carrier.

The development is the latest in a series of boosts for Heathenism in the U.S. military, a little-known religion with roots in Viking mythology that has gradually gained recognition in the services. A 2013 non-scientific "census" poll by the Norse Mythology Blog identified nearly 8,000 Heathen respondents in the U.S. and more than 16,000 worldwide. A 2018 estimate from religious author Jefferson Calico suggested there may be up to 20,000 American Heathens.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China’s ruling Communist Party has issued a revised set of regulations governing members’ behavior, threatening punishment for spreading political rumors and recommending those who cling to religious beliefs be asked to leave the party.

President Xi Jinping’s on-going crackdown against deep-rooted corruption, begun six years ago when he took office, has shaken up the party, with Xi warning, like other leaders before him, that the party’s very survival is at stake.

Xi has accrued more power than any of his immediate predecessors and has intensified efforts to ensure cadres are loyal, disciplined, upright and honest.

Are Western Views Of Buddhism Changing Because Of The Rohingya Crisis?

Rohingya refugees stand in their shacks in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, Sept. 27. Cathal McNaughton/Reuters

Harry Bruinius, CSM: Is Rohingya crisis changing West's 'romanticized' view of Buddhism?

When it comes to religious extremism, Buddhism has mostly escaped the scrutiny that Muslim militants, fundamentalist Christians, and Hindu nationalists in India have faced, observers say.

For many Americans, popular images of Buddhism have often included those of monks in saffron-colored robes, meditating peacefully on windswept mountains, revering all forms of life while seeking higher states of enlightenment.

In the context of such clichés, it has been jarring, many say, to see very different images coming out of Myanmar. Many monks, barefoot and clothed in the traditional robes of Burmese Buddhist monasteries, have been at the forefront of the violent repression of the Rohingya Muslim minority, which the United Nations has characterized as ethnic cleansing.

The U.S. Army Band Is Forbidden To Play 'Jungle Bells' At A Religious Event

Todd Starnes. FOX News: Why can't Army band play 'Jingle Bells' at Christmas show?

One of my favorite projects here at the Fox News Corner of the World is my annual Fox Radio Christmas show.

It’s a two-hour extravaganza filmed in Memphis -- featuring special guest performers, celebrities, a full orchestra and the Bellevue Baptist Church Singing Christmas Tree.

It’s sort of like a mash up of Grand Ole Opry meets “Prairie Home Companion” – just two-hours of family-friend fun.

Last year we featured MercyMe and jazz legend Kirk Whalum. The year before that, we had an amazing performance by Chris Tomlin. And we always salute our military. But this year, I wanted to do something a little different.

So I invited the U.S. Army’s Six-String Soldiers to perform. I just knew they would bring down the house with their guitars, banjo and mandolin – especially knowing that our audience loves the military.

What The World's Religious Landscape Will Look Like In 2050

A heat map of the world's Muslim landscape in 2050

The Telegraph: Mapped: What the world's religious landscape will look like in 2050

Christianity will remain the world's top religion despite the growth of Islam and atheism increases in the West. Click on the map to find out what the status of the world's faiths will be 35 years from now .

Islam is the world's fastest growing religion but despite the increasing numbers, Christians will still outnumber Muslims in 2050, a new report has found.

Religion, despite its decline in the West as the map above shows, is proliferating across the world - by 2050, Muslims will make up 10 per cent of Europe's population. By 2100, Muslims will outnumber Christians globally, Pew believe.

"By the year 2100, about 1 per cent more of the world’s population would be Muslim (35 per cent) than Christian (34 per cent)," the authors wrote.

According to the Pew Research Centre, the religiously unaffiliated - referring to atheists, agnostics and other people who do not identify with a religion - are declining as a share of the population.

WNU Editor: A lot can happen between now and 2050 let alone 2100 .... but this study does give an interesting breakdown on the world's religions.

Everyone Finds God When In Combat

Israel’s Iron Dome missile-defense system is fired to intercept enemy rockets

'Hand Of God Sent Missile Into Sea' -- WND

Iron Dome operator: 'I witnessed this miracle with my own eyes'

More claims of divine intervention are being reported in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with an operator of Israel’s Iron Dome missile-defense system saying he personally witnessed “the hand of God” diverting an incoming rocket out of harm’s way.

Israel Today translated a report from a Hebrew-language news site, which noted the Iron Dome battery failed three times to intercept an incoming rocket headed toward Tel Aviv last week.

The commander recalled: “A missile was fired from Gaza. Iron Dome precisely calculated [its trajectory]. We know where these missiles are going to land down to a radius of 200 meters. This particular missile was going to hit either the Azrieli Towers, the Kirya (Israel’s equivalent of the Pentagon) or [a central Tel Aviv railway station]. Hundreds could have died.

U.S. Forces In Bahrain Are Being Told To 'Respect' Ramadan When Off Base

US Personnel In Bahrain Prepare For Ramadan -- Stars and Stripes

MANAMA, Bahrain — U.S. personnel accustomed to drinking their coffee on the drive to work will have to put that habit on hold for about a month. It’s one of a few lifestyle changes Americans will have to make during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Officials expect Ramadan to begin at sunrise on Saturday, depending on when the new moon is sighted. The holy month lasts for approximately 30 days — until about July 28. For Muslims around the world, Ramadan is a month of fasting and devotion to God. Most Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, when families gather for Iftar — the meal that breaks the fast.

For the 8,200 U.S. personnel living here, and those serving throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility — including servicemembers, civilian personnel, contractors and family members — the month may require changing some daily routines.

My Comment: This story is so revealing on where the U.S. military is going on religious matters ....

.... While not required to fast during Ramadan, in Bahrain, Americans can be fined or detained by local authorities for eating, drinking or smoking in public when off-base during daylight hours.

So .... Christianity is not permitted on U.S. bases because it "violates the separation of church and state rule" .... but one must respect Islamic rules during Ramadan. Am I the only one who sees a double standard here?

Group Calls For The U.S. Military To Stay Away From National Day Of Prayer Event

Military Urged To Stay Away From National Day Of Prayer Event -- Washington Times

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation, run by former Air Force member Mikey Weinstein, is petitioning U.S. military leaders to abstain from attending a National Day of Prayer, saying the annual event is nothing short of right-wing Christian fundamentalism.

Mr. Weinstein penned a letter to military chiefs and to White House officials, asking them not to send any speakers, the Army Times reported.

“The planned participation by uniformed U.S. military personnel in this private fundamentalist Christian religious event, run by a non-federal entity, is an unequivocally clear violation of [a] plethora of [Department of Defense] regulations and instructions,” the letter said. “The U.S. military absolutely cannot endorse these searingly sectarian events by its public participation in them.”

Pew Study : Religious Violence Across World Hits Six Year High

Religious Groups Face Increased Hostility And Limits Worldwide – Pew Report -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Violence and discrimination against religious groups by governments and rival faiths have reached new highs in all regions of the world except the Americas, according to a new Pew Research Centre report.

Social hostility such as attacks on minority faiths or pressure to conform to certain norms was strong in one-third of the 198 countries and territories surveyed in 2012, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, it said on Tuesday.

Religious-related terrorism and sectarian violence occurred in one-fifth of those countries in that year, while states imposed legal limits on worship, preaching or religious wear in almost 30 percent of them, Pew said.

Insanity Or Is The Obama Administration Targeting Catholics: Priests Who Minister To Troops During Shutdown Risk Arrest -- Catholic Online

The government shutdown has created some rather ridiculous situations, while other problems are much more serious. Among the most serious ones is the open hostility toward Catholics serving in the military. Priests were told they could not celebrate the Mass and Catholics in the military could not receive the sacraments.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - There are only 234 active duty priests serving within the U.S. military, but a quarter of the 275,000 service personnel are Catholic, according to CNS News. For occasions when priests are off duty or physically unavailable, the military has contracted with regional parishes to bring in civilian priests to meet the spiritual needs of the troops.

However, as a consequence of the shutdown, these priests cannot be brought onto base. This isn't just about pay. The priests cannot even be permitted onto base to perform sacraments even on a voluntary basis. Any civilian priest caught on a military base will be arrested.
