The fateful speech is the first since the end of the Wagner mutiny over the weekend 

The Monday evening address by Russian President Vladimir Putin will be a turning point in the future of the country, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media. “Without exaggeration, this address will determine the fate of Russia,” Peskov said.

Russian President Putin Issued Via The Kremlin Website His First Statement Since Wagner's Mutiny

 

Reuters: Kremlin releases first video statement by Putin since Wagner mutiny 

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday issued via the Kremlin website his first statement since an armed mutiny by the Wagner mercenary group, congratulating participants of an industrial forum. 

It was not immediately clear when or where Putin's statement was recorded. Putin made a national address to the Russian people on Saturday condemning the mutiny by Wagner mercenaries as a "stab in the back" and vowing to crush it.

Wagner Group Leader Prigozhin Releases First Message Since The Mutiny

 

Reuters: 'We Didn't Want to Overthrow Government' - Prigozhin, in First Comments Since Mutiny 

Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin said on Monday that a one-day mutiny by his Wagner force had been intended not to overthrow Russia's government but to register a protest over what he said was its ineffectual conduct of the war in Ukraine. 

In his first public comments since ending the mutiny late on Saturday, Prigozhin repeated his frequent claim that Wagner was the most effective fighting force in Russia "and even the world", and that it put to shame the units that Moscow had sent into Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022.

Russian Stepping Up Airstrikes In Syria

 

BBC: Syria war: Nine killed as Russia air strike hits Idlib market 

The UN has expressed deep concern about an escalation of hostilities in north-western Syria after at least 11 people were reportedly killed in Russian air strikes on rebel-held Idlib province. 

Nine were killed when warplanes dropped bombs next to a market outside Jisr al-Shughour on Sunday, rescuers said. 

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group reported that it was the deadliest Russian attack this year. Another two people were killed in an air strike near Idlib city, it said. 

There was no immediate comment from the Russian military, whose air campaign in support of the Syrian government has been crucial in turning the tide of the 12-year civil war in its favour.

The Diplomat: Will China’s Private Security Companies Follow the Wagner Group’s Footsteps in Africa? 

As the controversial Russian mercenary group is diverting its attention to Ukraine, China’s PSCs have a window to expand their engagement in African countries. 

 In April, the Wagner Group, a Russian-based private military company (PMC), caught the attention of the world for its offensive against the Ukrainian town of Bakhmut. This assault put the name of this group and its Kremlin-linked founder, Yevgeny Prigorzhin, on the lips of journalists and the news-conscious public around the world. However, to observers of the African continent, Wagner has been a source of concern for several years.

Will Wager Continue To Operate In Africa And The Middle East?

DW: Russia's Wagner Group: Where is it active? 

Russia's notorious private military company, the Wagner Group, has been training soldiers, escorting politicians and allegedly committing human rights violations all over the globe for years. 

The Wagner Group isn't just active in Ukraine. It also has a presence in many other countries, including Syria or Mali. 

And it's not the only Russian private military company either. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in these kinds of groups, also known as PMCs, in Russia, a report from the US-based think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, says. 

It is not always possible to accurately track the exact activities of the Wagner Group, headed by Yevgeny Prigozhin, and other PMCs because they allegedly act independently of the Russian government and conventional military forces. However analysts believe that the group is likely active in more than 30 countries around the world.

White House Says Biden, Zelenskyy Hold Phone Call About "Recent Events In Russia

CBS: Biden, Zelenskyy hold phone call about "recent events in Russia," White House says 

President Biden held a phone call Sunday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the United States' continued support for Ukraine, the White House said in a statement. 

A White House readout of the call said Mr. Biden and Zelenskyy "discussed Ukraine's ongoing counter-offensive, and President Biden reaffirmed unwavering U.S. support, including through continued security, economic, and humanitarian aid." 

The two leaders also discussed "recent events" in Russia, the readout said without elaborating.

Infrastructure and training facilities need to be constructed. 

BERLIN — Germany is preparing to permanently deploy 4,000 soldiers to Lithuania, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Monday in Vilnius. 

Infrastructure and training facilities need to be constructed, but Pistorius said that Berlin would be putting a “robust brigade” in the Baltic country. 

Pistorius had traveled to Lithuania to watch NATO training drills with military alliance Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
