Massive U.S. Weapon's Sale To Taiwan

U.S. To Sell $6.4 Billion In Weapons To Taiwan -- CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a move bound to anger China, the United States intends to sell $6.4 billion in arms to Taiwan, the State Department said Friday.

State Department deputy spokesman Robert Wood said Congress -- whose approval is needed for the deal to go through -- was notified Friday afternoon. He indicated the administration expects congressional approval quickly.

The package includes a variety of U.S.-made weapons systems, including Patriot III anti-missile missiles, Apache attack helicopters, Harpoon missiles and Javelin anti-tank missiles.

The deal had been in the works for a few months, Wood said, and the decision is "consistent with U.S. policy of providing arms for defense of Taiwan and consistent with the Taiwan Relations Act."

My Comment: This is not going to make the leaders in Beijing happy .... but what can they do. Increase their military ... they are already doing that. Cut off exports of products to the U.S. .... nah. Pour into poor African countries with weapons, advisers, and business managers buying resources .... already doing that.

Nope .... China's options are limited. I guess it is time to have serious discussions with Taiwan on the future .... instead of threatening them all the time.

Bookyards,

Do you really think China's options are limited? How about dumping/not buying US dollars? How about selling weapons to Iran, Cuba and Venezuela? It seems to me we need them more than they need us now (:-

How about selling a few anti-ship missiles to, say, Iran?

Or, provide some more advanced RPG/Rocket to the Arabs.
