Under Obama, An Emerging Global Apparatus For Drone Killing -- Washington Post
The Obama administration’s counterterrorism accomplishments are most apparent in what it has been able to dismantle, including CIA prisons and entire tiers of al-Qaeda’s leadership. But what the administration has assembled, hidden from public view, may be equally consequential.
In the space of three years, the administration has built an extensive apparatus for using drones to carry out targeted killings of suspected terrorists and stealth surveillance of other adversaries. The apparatus involves dozens of secret facilities, including two operational hubs on the East Coast, virtual Air Force cockpits in the Southwest and clandestine bases in at least six countries on two continents.

My Comment: Within three years .... this convergence of military and intelligence resources has produced an incredibly effective killing machine. But while this development is not surprising .... (I saw it happening 4 years ago and have been blogging on it extensively in this blog since then) .... what has surprised me is the complete lack of public debate and discussion on it, and even more surprising is the lack of opposition. Where are the protests? The outrage? The absence of media coverage and reporting .... and the even greater absence of commentary and punditry. I guess it is easy to criticize a Republican President who opened up Guantanamo, but it is not easy to criticize a sitting Democrat President who has gone all out and is now pursuing a policy of targeted killings and assassinations.
