Panetta Security Scare Raises More Questions



Panetta Says Afghan Who Died In Attack Did Not Target Him -- New York Times

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said Thursday that he did not believe that the Afghan who crashed a stolen pickup truck near his plane, and then emerged from the truck in flames, was trying to attack him. But the Afghan was an interpreter working for coalition forces at the complex where Mr. Panetta was landing, raising the possibility that he knew someone of importance was arriving.

American defense officials said that the Afghan had tried to run over a group of United States Marines who were waiting on a runway ramp for the plane.
