Dozens Killed, Including 6 U.S. Troops, In Insurgent Attacks In Afghanistan -- Washington Post

KABUL — A series of fresh attacks across Afghanistan on Sunday and Monday killed more than a dozen people, including six U.S. troops, officials said.

The American service members lost their lives when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in Maidan Wardak province, which lies just west of Kabul and has recently become one of the country’s most dangerous stretches.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident, one of the bloodiest in months for the U.S. troops in Afghanistan, occurred Sunday. On the same day, 23 Afghan civilians were killed by multiple blasts in Arghistan district of southern Kandahar.
