Syria Rebels Launch Attack On Central Aleppo -- Al Jazeera

Security forces "open fire" on detainees in city's main prison, as battles rage in Old City of nation's commercial hub.

Rebels have launched an offensive to take over downtown Aleppo, battling Syrian army and intelligence personnel at the gates of the Old City, a United Nations World Heritage site, residents and opposition activists said.

Fierce clashes have flared for a fourth day on Tuesday in Syria's commercial capital, showing the resilience of a rebel assault on regime targets.
