Expect Terrorism Blowback From U.S. Air Strikes In iraq

Experts Warn of Terrorism Blowback From Iraq Air Strikes -- Michael Crowley, Time

ISIS has long threatened America openly — will Obama's strikes inspire it to act?

The American air strikes against a militant group in Iraq could motivate the fighters to retaliate with terrorist attacks against U.S. civilians, experts warn.

President Barack Obama’s air strikes against militants from the group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) “could increase the likelihood that ISIS or somebody inspired by ISIS, would strike against the homeland,” says Seth Jones, a terrorism expert with Rand Corp.

My Comment: Terrorist groups like ISIS/Islamic State do not need an excuse to launch terror attacks. But recent attacks from U.S. forces on ISIS forces may force them to respond in order to show to their followers that they are not "impotent" in the face of the U.S. military. Where they may launch such "reprisal attacks" is still unknown .... but I would wager that it will happen somewhere in the Middle East.

Just a side comment:

We have the Iron Triangle in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

We have the Sunni Triangle during the Iraq war.

Now we have the Salafi Donor Triangle.

It stretches from Kuwait to Riyadh to Dubai.

There are donors out side this region in America, Europe and other places to be sure. But this is surely its' heart and where the "firstest' and the "mostest" comes from.

Sunni/Salafi Donor Triangle

I think it says a tremendous amount about our intelligence community that we haven't seen more 9/11s or Boston Marathon type events. I'm certain it isn't for lack of interest on the parts of those who would like to blow people up.

The government is here - and minded to use any excuse to increase repression. 'Terrorists' are likely more concerned with conditions in their lands - which means that only the geographically challenged can fail to note the constraints on possible response for those not equipped with a world spanning air force, army, navy, marines, etc.
Sidebar : it is most convenient to designate those not in uniform as terrorists - rather than desperate patriots resisting occupation. In such case 'terrorists' means those without comparatively effective weapons.

I can name most of the countries in the world less the be postage stamp sized.

I believe that that jihadis can multi-task. they can walk and chew gum, you know.
