WT article mention the other unnamed IS field commander who died in the same area, but his name had been revealed, it is Abu Salaam Al-Jazrawi. The siege of Tabqa Airbase is not going to be easy job for IS, and I expect they will retreat from the battle or switch to defence withing the next one week. SAA forces in the base are capable and actually doing strikes on compounds and villages around the base to break the IS forces, and the possibility to move out from the base is a big hope for the defenders. SAA just sent the newly formed 124th Brigade of the Syrian Republican Guards to this airbase. This unit is formed from other special units of SAA with the main task of counter-insurgency. Also this unit came from the area of Tartus, probably mainly Alavite solders.

While IS fighing for the airbase, SAF conducted 100-200+ airstrikes during the last week in Raqqa and Der-el-Zor areas, and the news not really mention, but during the airstrikes dozens of IS advisor and leader died and wounded in Raqqa, which could have a huge effect on the decisions being made duiring the next weeks. There are also some rummors about Al-Bagdadi has wounded, but I have no idea that is this true or not, but no proof has been showed yet. Also SAA damaged the dam near Raqqa with an airstrike/SCUD missile to cut electricity of the town.

Another interesting news from the same area. The news report that SAA sent forces from the Syrian First Army Corps (based in Damascus and Golan area) to Der-el-Zor. Reports talking about 100 tank, which is hard to belive, but this Corps has 4 Armored and 1 Mechanised Division so it's could be true. SAA still not yet started their mayor offensive but the huge amount airstrikes (50+ daily) in the region, the relocated units and the tries to beheade the leadership of IS could be a start of an offense against the North-East Syrian areas.
