* Builders found bomb under old site of Southwark Irish Pensioners centre
* Ward councillor Lucas Green tweeted: 'Seems our OAPs are hard as nails'
* He said 'evacuees of 2015' showed Blitz spirit with a phone charger swap
* Bermondsey, south east London, bore brunt of bombing during the Blitz

Thousands of people were forced to flee from their homes after a 5ft-long unexploded Second World War bomb was discovered under a former pensioners centre in London.

Evacuated residents in Southwark, south east London, showed 'Blitz spirit' today as they remain stranded in a leisure centre for hot food and drinks after being made homeless overnight.

A major operation is under way to remove the 1,000lb device, which was discovered by builders under the old site of the Southwark Irish Pensioners centre yesterday morning.

WNU Editor: These ordinances are incredibly dangerous. Years ago when I was visiting family in Kiev one of these bombs were discovered a few blocks away .... it makes you realize that even though the war is over .... people can still die decades later.
