S-300s to Iran "More a Strategic than an Operative Issue"

Israel's top Air Force officer said Wednesday that Russian S-300 air defense systems, if or when deployed by Iran, would constitute more of "a strategic issue than an operative issue" because it would embolden Tehran to "even more aggressive" behavior.

"It's a huge challenge," Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel, Israel Air Force commander conceded, when asked about a May 26 announcement — following meetings in Moscow between Russian and Iran officials — that the systems would be delivered to Iran at an unspecified time.

"But it's more a strategic issue… because whoever has the S-300 feels protected. He can allow himself to do things even more aggressively, because he thinks he's defended," Eshel told Defense News.

WNU Editor,

Since the '73 War, when the IAF got slaughtered by Syrian and Egyptian SAM's, they have been leaders in SAM supression tactics and technology.

The key question is, like the IDF, has the on going two decades long program of killing defenseless Palistinians, corrupted and corroded their ability to fight an actual opponent?

Jay .... Your comment reminds me of what my dad said when Britain and Argentina were preparing for war on the Falklands in the 1980s. I asked my father who was going to win .... his answer was that the British have been fighting wars against other armies for centuries .... the Argentinian military were only good at terrorizing their defenseless civilians .... so as he told me .... who do you think is going to win?

I suspect that the IDF is rusty .... but they are lucky .... the Arabs with the modern planes are now only focused on bombing Houthis in Yemen and the Islamic State in Syria/Iraq.

WNU Editor,

The IRRAF has a pretty good track record of using obsolete equiptment, guts, and unconventional tactics to good use against impossible odds.

When the Iraqi AF and airdefenses made strikes on Baghdad deadly, the IRAAF simply made the trip in their F-4's at 100 feet off the deck, with afterburners on, after tanking up just before the border, also at low altitude, from an Iranian converted obsolete Hercules tanker.

the '2 decades long program of killing defenseless Palestinians' hasn't been very effective considering Assad has outdone Israel's supposed program in less than 5 years, using Iranian supplies.

See, one Israel story and the Hasbaradim show up to post nonsense.

Hasbaradim. Brilliant.

The only nonsense is in your original claim. If Israel had really been targeting civilians you would expect a much higher death toll, considering the firepower the IDF has and the population density of Gaza. If you compare them to what Assad has been doing in Syria there is no comparison. Assad has murdered more civilians than Israel since 1948, including Palestinian refugees, who were never given citizenship and just left in squallid camps for decades.

Dumbest hasbaradim yet,

The IAF hints at an airstrike on Iran, and you write a full paragraph of hasbara on Gaza and Syria.

You can't even do your job properly.

You are supposed to write a full paragraph of hasbara on the evils of Iran.

LOL. Hasbaradim. Learning something new everyday.
