Breaking News!!!! Reports Are Coming In That Turkey Has Shot Down A Russian Jet

It has been claimed by eyewitnesses that there was a large explosion in Huraytan, northern Syria, not far from the Turkish border, while three fighter planes were seen overhead

Daily Mail: Russian jet 'shot down by Turkish forces after planes violated country's airspace on Syrian bombing run'

  * Unconfirmed reports claim a Russian jet was shot down by Turkish forces
  * Eyewitnesses on social media said they saw an explosion in northern Syria
  * It was alleged that Russian fighter planes had violated Turkey's airspace
  * Nato has previously warned of the 'extreme danger' of such incursions

Turkish forces are said to have shot down a Russian jet after it flew into the country's airspace, according to unconfirmed reports on social media.

It has been claimed by eyewitnesses that there was a large explosion in Huraytan, northern Syria, while three fighter planes were seen overhead.

Rumours of a jet being shot out of the sky come amid heightening tensions between Russian president Vladimir Putin and the West.

WNU Editor: Regular reader and commentator James brought to our attention yesterday that a Russian jet had been shot down by Turkey. There was nothing on the wire services about a Russian jet being shot down, but I do have a very reliable source in Russia who always tells me if a story pertaining to the Russian military is true or not. I sent him an email and text-message late Friday night for his feedback. He has yet to respond (which is very telling because he always responds). It was only this evening while reading my email and the comments from the readers of this blog that I then realized that the probable reason why he did not respond was because the rumours of a Russian jet being shot down are true .... and he could not tell me because it was/is still classified and not for public release (an information black-out that was probably ordered from the Russian President's office itself). As of this moment I do not know if this story is true or not .... but I can say unequivocally that the Russian government is not denying it .... and that tells me a lot.

WNU Editor,

It's unconfirmed, and social media is claiming it's a MIG-29, which Russia has not deployed to Syria.

So far, on social media, there have been claims of an SU-25 shoot down, a Hind shoot down, a Mil-8 shoot down ( none of which has happened) and now, ( 2 days old) a Mig-29 shoot down.

In addition, a crap load of "fake" and unconfirmed claims of Russian strike failures.

Black Media is being deployed to reinforce the propaganda.

BTW, Russian jets fly in pairs, so three is BS.

I hope that you are right Jay .... I am catching up on the news and it is true .... everyone is contradicting everyone else. But Moscow is quiet .... they are usually the first to deny such a story. Then again .... after denying the reports that their cruise missiles had crashed in Iran, Moscow could have made the decision that they will no longer comment on unconfirmed news reports .... hence the speculation and rumours. Then again Jay .... I do have one good source who has always been correct in the past .... and he has not responded to this story.

You are right about the pairs Jay. I forgot about that.

This is interesting. If a US jet was shot down, the media would be reporting it endlessly from the first moment it happened complete with footage interviews and breathless recommendations by a variety of talking head idiot pundits. If false, it seems there is no cost to Russia in reporting this and working to destroy any media source who would contradict their claims. This may only work if the story is false.

Then again I'm not sure anyone is likely to believe a Russia jet was shot down. As such, there may be no reason to speak up. Given the complexity of any military operation of this magnitude, it might come as no surprise that a jet would be shot down but I am skeptical. The Russians are the best pilots in the world. As such, it seems dubious that anything from Turkey is going to shoot them down.

While this story likely warrants closer scrutiny and should be treated with EXTREME skepticism and likely false, it does not seem the typical modus operandi for the Russians to keep quite if the story is false. Of course they could be waiting for the story to reach enough readers and viewers to make the rebuttal more effective when they decide to do so to further discredit their opposition.

It's hard to believe the response would be this long in coming if it were true.

The Russian response I mean.

WNU Editor,

It's only been a few days and I get the feeling that towards the end, it's gonna be hard to pick favourites,

Right now, #3 is the Twitter picks of "Civillian casualties" date stamped two days before the Russian entry into Syria,

#2 is the video feed of the "shoot down" of a SU-25, in which there is an undefined "puff" (chaff deployment?), spliced together footage of a Mig-27, SU-25 and Mig-29, with a consistent sound track of Allah Akbar, and no footage of a crash or explosion,

But #1 is the Fee Syrian Army claim of "no ISIS" here filmed on the roof of the same building that ISIS had filmed, (two days before) their multi camera epic of them throwing gay guys off the roof to their deaths.

Uhm I hope this is false reports, but If you get any more information just a thine shred that is reliable then please either post it in a short status update or in a comment. Also it could be another plane was shot down since it's a Mig-29 which the Syrian government has, it could be one of their planes was shot down, or nothing was shot down at all. If it was a Syrian government plane and not a Russian one that was shot down will it have some consequences or will it just be "Business as usual"?

Rhaegar. If this story is true it will not be "business as usual".
