CNN: U.S. sanctions North Korean leader for first time over human rights abuses
Washington (CNN)The Obama administration on Wednesday slapped sanctions on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and 10 other regime officials for their alleged complicity in human rights abuses against the North Korean people.
The move marked the first time Washington sanctioned Kim Jong Un personally. Administration officials said Kim was "ultimately responsible" for what they called "North Korea's notorious abuses of human rights."
"Under Kim Jong Un, North Korea continues to inflict intolerable cruelty and hardship on millions of its own people, including extrajudicial killings, forced labor, and torture," Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam J. Szubin said in a statement announcing the new action.

Not only is it going to have zero impact but it only serves to further inflame the situation. Taking moves that have no impact and only serve to inflame the situation are the actions of fools.
When the US dollar loses its role as world reserve currency, such sanctions will be even less effective than they are now. Leveling sanctions against North Korea who has allies in the form of Russia and China will only make it much harder for us when this does happen. As such, it would probably be a good idea to refrain from such things.
Our goals with regards to North Korea should be peaceful relations with them where they do not try to harm us. since sanctions will at best have zero impact and may only make things worse, such moves make no sense.
Perhaps it is an act of desperation on the part of the US and it's leaders. If so, a better approach would be to act in such ways as to try and get China and Russia on our side here. They stand to have allot more influence with North Korea as far as altering it's behavior than the US does.
Sanctions! Wow, now there's a novel idea. Why haven't we tried that before? Sure to work.
