Should The U.S. Upgrade Its Defence Readiness To Defcon 3?

Daily Star: US nuclear attack warning 'upgraded to level 3' as Russian threat goes 'beyond Cold War'

AMERICA is edging closer to nuclear armageddon after upgrading its attack “defence readiness”, it has been claimed.

The defense readiness condition, dubbed DEFCON, is an alert system used by the US military to indicate the risk of nuclear war.

The system has five levels of readiness, or states of alert, increasing in severity from DEFCON 5 – the least severe – to DEFCON 1 – the most severe.

The current DEFCON level is understood to be 5 – the lowest state of readiness.

But conspiracy theory website DEFCON warning system claims the threat has been upgraded to level 3, meaning the US Air Force is ready to mobilise in just 15 minutes.

Update: DWS Moves To DEFCON 3 (War Monitor)

WNU Editor: The website that is making the case to upgrade America's Defcon to 3 is the following .... DEFCON Warning System – Update 10/13/16 (The Defcon Warning System). I think the level should be raised either defcon 1 or 2 and kept there on a permanent basis. The US simply doesn't have the conventional military capabilities that adversaries like Russia and China have. As such, it is going to need to rely more on nuclear weapons capabilities than these powers will. In other words, America has much less margin for error than either Russia or China have.

While American policies need to be changed, this may not be enough. Some pundits both bloggers and news media personnel have essentially called for genocide against the American people. Is this the position of the Russian leadership? I hope not but if it is any concessions that America might make aren't going to be bring peace.

In any event, we should try to be accommodating to the world's leading powers but they need to understand that an attack on America will be extremely costly for them. As such, they might think twice before doing such a thing. Raise defcon to either 1 or perhaps 2 and keep it that there for the foreseeable future and try to ensure we have a nuclear arsenal that will actually work should we need it.

That is a BS website. They have nothing to do with the US DOD.

Correct John, but it is being discussed out there (and debunked here).
