Chinese Media Mocks North Korea's Technical Capabilities After Friday's Failed Missile Launch

CNBC: Chinese paper mocks North Korea's tech prowess after failed ballistic missile launch

China's semi-official Global Times newspaper criticized an ongoing "game of chicken" between North Korea and Washington but also knocked Pyongyang's tech talents.

Early Saturday, the reclusive communist nation launched yet another missile, presumably in a new display of force amid a verbal war of words with President Donald Trump. However, the missile exploded seconds after liftoff, and officials said the failed test involved a short-range, non-nuclear missile able to hit Seoul but not Japan.

"The test's failure shows that the country's missile technology is not mature, and that the missile-launching vehicle paraded on the Day of the Sun not long ago may have only been a mock-up," the English-language Chinese publication said in a commentary.

This fight between China and North Korea is so staged it smells. The Chinese are still financing North Korea heavily. They are still supporting them politically. Because ultimately they know that a potential conflict between north Korea and the US will let them hold the cards. Meaning: in the worst case they get taiwan and/or south China Sea in one of Trump's deals. And in the best case the US make a mistake (maybe mislead by poor Intel) and a nuke actually detonates in the SF bay area. Then China gets the world.

lol, if a nuke goes of in SF you'll see a furious america. all threats will be neutralized after that - would not be a win for china

China does not want N. Koreans fleeing into China and does not want Am troops at Chinese borders. There is a good chance that Am cyber attack took down this, the second recent failure. We won't say and N. Korea, if aware will not be likely to say
ps: the riddle to make sure i am not a robot is cumbersome and too time consuming so no more comments from me

Three possible scenarios for the NK missile failures: 1) They're failing outright. 2) the US has some way to reliably destroy the missiles in flight - and is showing its hand by taking them out. Or 3) NK is deliberately destroying the missiles before they can reach open water. Getting the data they needed during the ~15 minute flight and blowing it up in order to prevent any missile parts being recovered by the US Navy.

/betting on option 3.

Anon (1st comment)

This thought has occurred to me as well. The whole thing may well be staged by China and North Korea and should Korean War 2 become reality the US and South Korea are going to bear the brunt of a North Korean military response not China.

This is a net plus for China unless they are overly concerned about "sold to USA." They likely aren't. America needs "made in China" MUCH MORE than China needs "sold to USA." Since the Chinese are not stupid, there seems little doubt they understand this. As for US leaders, they have a long track record of stupidity. As for DJT, the jury is still out on this.

Anon # 2,

At that point the Russians would be involved and their cyber attacks will have rendered US weapons of all types completely useless except as very expensive paper weights. Essentially America won't be able to respond. Furthermore the ridiculous myth of America as some sort of superpower/hyperpower will have been shattered forever. As such, expect all of America's "allies" to quickly adjust their positions.

The experience of "the deal maker" has been negotiating when he was in the dominant position. He's not in the dominant position with regards to Russia or China. Can he adjust? As has been said, "stay tuned." Since the survival of America hangs in the balance, I pray he can.

Fred: i agree...the comment verification is becoming an annoyance. i disagree with you on most of your comments, but please keep commenting!

anon3 and WNU: i have noticed that comments i make from my mobile do not usually appear on the comment thread. maybe the same issue here with anon3.

B Poster:
1. no, the U.S. does not need 'made in china'. there are plenty of other places we can import from. there are many other options out there for cheap products/labor. and i have a feeling that china will learn this in the near future.

2. you have way to much faith in the russians and chinese

Thanks. .it keeps happening.. I also think it's your verification or commenting system. ..I saw the comment appear..later it was gone

I think America is superior in technology, overall number of equipment, training and expertise. .all immensely important and would all but guarantee a victory in a short skirmish. But. ..the US is Not a country used to hardship. Russians and Chinese are. Both are much better at improvising with what they got and living on little. Any long term , non-nuclear confrontation would be for them to win.

Ps I know about the mobile issue and always check if comment made it through and actually appears on page (and stays on page after refresh)..this is different.
