Is Russia Targeting The U.S. Military Via Through Social Media?

Ben Schreckinger, Politico: How Russia Targets the U.S. Military

With hacks, pro-Putin trolls and fake news, the Kremlin is ratcheting up its efforts to turn American servicemembers and veterans into a fifth column.

In the fall of 2013, Veterans Today, a fringe American news site that also offers former service members help finding jobs and paying medical bills, struck up a new partnership. It began posting content from New Eastern Outlook, a geopolitical journal published by the government-chartered Russian Academy of Sciences, and running headlines like “Ukraine’s Ku Klux Klan — NATO’s New Ally.” As the United States confronted Russian ally Bashar Assad for using chemical weapons against Syrian children this spring, the site trumpeted, “Proof: Turkey Did 2013 Sarin Attack and Did This One Too” and “Exclusive: Trump Apologized to Russia for Syria Attack.”

WNU Editor: Is Russia targeting certain military personnel to be influenced .... probably. Are U.S. military personnel easily influenced by what someone posts online .... hmmmm .... some probably are, but the vast majority probably not.

Actual endless deployments to far off areas that don't enhance American national security and in fact undermine it, substandard weapons and weapon systems, poor training, poor leadership, and a general lack of respect shown to these men and women have done more to turn these America's military into a "fifth column" than anything the Russians may or may not have done.

If America's armed forces personnel have, in fact, become a "fifth column." these people need to LOOK IN THE MIRROR and see what they have wrought.

Now just looking at the headlines time permitting, I will read the article later. 1.) Ukraine KKK, there is substantial evidence to support the notion that the Ukrainian government is racist and wishes to visit harm on Russians. As for "NATO's new ally," it certainly would help if the US were to announce forcefully and follow up with action that Ukraine will NOT be a member of NATO and NEVER will be as long as the US is a member UNLESS Russia approves.

As I stated at the time, our involvement in Ukraine was/is the stupidest move ever made by a major world power. Unfortunately I've been proven right. At best, the United States blindly supported a coup against the Ukrainian government without understanding who they were supporting. At worse, the United States actively supported the coup, went out of its way to do so, and all for no discernible American interests.

In an area awash with chemical weapons, it never was determined just who used them in 2013 and recently. Given the track record of US "Intelligence" "just trust us" will not be acceptable. The same generally applies to "western" Intelligence as well. As I've discussed here before, based upon motive and opportunity the chemical weapons attacks probably were conducted by the "rebels." At least a real investigation would begin based upon that assumption.

While we do NOT form conclusions based upon headlines, this sampling of headlines certainly has evidence to support them elsewhere. Finally, "offers former service members help finding jobs and paying medical bills." Here's a novel approach. Perhaps the US government should consider this approach. Instead of misusing and abusing our military personnel, this approach would be a better one for the US government to take. As for any organization seeking to help veterans, naturally they are going to seek out anyone who can help them fulfill their missions in making sure our warriors are treated with dignity, class, and have the help they need.

As of right now, it appears that the Russian government cares more about America and its citizens than the American government does. Again, if the powers that be are worried about American military personnel becoming a "fifth column" the thing to do is LOOK IN THE MIFFOR!! Their actions created the problem.

In the Christian faith, it is called reaping what one sows. We've all sown bad seed at one time or another. As such, I try to never relish one "getting theirs." It's far better for one to come to their senses and behave properly. At this point, the patience of the Russian government and the Russian people is probably nearly exhausted. I do hope and pray we can come to our senses before it is to late.

I'm not influenced by anything Russia may or may not put out. I try to read media from multiple sources and try and make an informed decision based upon as much information as I am able to obtain. Sometimes we get it wrong.

As for Reality Winner, I think she leaked that the NSA concluded Russia tried to hack the election or something to that effect. Apparently she buys into the nonsense of Russia trying to help Trump.
