Image Posted On Instagram Showing An F-22 In A Russian Fighter's Sights

Popular Mechanics: Unexplained Images Shows F-22 Raptor in Russian Fighter’s Sights

The grainy picture, if it is real, leaves plenty of questions unanswered.

An image purportedly taken of a U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor over Syria has surfaced on social media. The grayscale image was reportedly taken from the infrared targeting cameras of a Russian fighter jet.

The image surfaced on Instagram account fighter_bomber_ with little explanation other than it was allegedly taken by a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 multi-role fighter. Known by NATO as “Flanker-E,” the Su-35 is capable of both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat and is roughly similar to a modernized F-15E Strike Eagle. It is also known for some extraordinary aerial maneuvers.

WNU Editor: This is just one grainy image, but it looks like this Su-35 Russian jet is having no problem spotting and tracking an F-22.

Id say its real, played alot of Ace Combat and i can dogfight with planes that cant be tracked and don't appear on my HUD. I would assume in a multirole jet you have the ability to designate and track targets, even a F22 to some degree. That being said the F22 should just turn and burn when it see enemy radar contacts, leave the dog fights to more common planes. I would even argue that F22 pilots arn't taught advanced dogfighting tactics, rather taught to operate in team environment to abuse their radar advantage, unleash their arsenals and bug out to rearm, not hang around attempting gun kills.

Way to easy to fake by Russian goverment people.

Why should it not be real? Once you have established visual sight you can track anything. Can your eyes see an F22? Yes, so can cameras. This is a camera motion auto track preformed after visual presight. Also, just to make this clear. The f22 is not invisible. Neither to your eyes, nor to radar. It only has radar limiting properties. So it is very easy indeed to get it in your cross hair one it's close enough to be sighted by visual means. Which the photo shows. It's a visual photo. Not a radar or next gen radar readout lol

No one is saying that the F22 is "invisible", but that the USAF would not get in a position where they get "ambushed." I would like to know hoe many sights there is on that russian fighter at that moment that the pilot is not even aware of.

It seems people has a general, and wrong, understanding on how capable the USAF really is.
