CNN: Russia warns US of pending attack in Syrian area with US troops
Russia has warned the US military twice in the last week that its forces, along with Syrian regime units, are prepared to attack in an area where dozens of US troops are located, according to several US defense officials.
Russia claims that there are militants in the area protected by US troops.
Moscow's declaration has sharply raised US commanders' concerns that American forces would be at risk if a Russian attack goes forward, CNN has learned. And it has sparked US warnings to Moscow not to challenge the US military presence.
Several US defense officials have told CNN that concerns center on a US-led anti-ISIS coalition base at At Tanf. US troops help monitor a 55-kilometer (34-mile) exclusion zone around At Tanf. Given its location near the borders of Syria, Jordan and Iraq, the At Tanf garrison is seen as a key strategic location as the US, Iran and Russia compete for influence in the region.

Update: Russia reportedly warns the US that it's prepared to attack a key base where dozens of US troops are stationed (Business Insider).
WNU Editor: This is intimidation .... Russian style. But I doubt that it will work. The last thing that the Pentagon wants to show in this part of the world is weakness.

Al Tanf is strategic for everyone. The USA has it and Syria and Iran want it. We saw what happened the last time Russia went for a US held position, a slaughter of Russian Mercenaries. Should Putin and Assad make a move for al Tanf, there will be a big fight. Also Assad will endanger any possibility of a Kurdish reapproachment.
This is no better than click-bait having read it....."if Russian targeting is not precise". Not precise!!!??? Have they missed a hospital yet? 7 so far. Give those Ivans a break.
Good grief this is amateur stuff. Isn't there an agreement signed by both parties for this area? How many "defense officials" were used for this space filling nonsense? All, of course, anonymous. Certainly not in fear of retribution. More in fear of being mocked. Or their picture shown on cnn's video with a somber Wolf and whatever the woman's name is. Now that would be embarrassing. "Don't you kids talk about your dad at recess being seen with a cnn self-propelled brainless mouth or you won't get your allowance for a month".
Maybe I should listen to Wolfie's "news cast" video before spouting but I haven't the time to waste at my age. I'll watch the Ivan's special forces one instead.
The "militan's" are used more and more as an excuse for doing whatever Assad and allied's want to do. In fact this strategic point is critical for Iranians.
All I can say is don't miss.
Hope I don't see it in my life time. If it does hypothetically speaking hope you got a bunker. 😙
TRUMP'S POSITION
So Trump does a 180 on Syria and ...
Trump hired General Mattis.
Mattis has a right to advise his boss and change his boss's mind.
I like Trump enough to vote for him. Id did not want a pullout from Syria. Now there is a one less thing that I disagree with the person I voted for.
Problem?
Thanks for brining up this important ZAerohedge article. I usually read ZH, but I missed that one.
Again thank you Fred.
