gCaptain: Photos Show Confrontation Between USS Decatur and a Chinese Navy Warship in South China Sea
gCaptain has just obtained photos showing a confrontation involving the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Decatur and a Chinese Navy warship in the disputed South China Sea over the weekend.
The U.S. Navy confirmed the incident on Tuesday, accusing China’s navy of conducting an “unsafe and unprofessional maneuver” that nearly led to a collision as the U.S. destroyer was underway “in the vicinity” of Gaven Reef in the Spratly Islands on Sunday, September 30.
According to a Navy spokesman, during the incident, the Chinese warship “approached within 45 yards of Decatur’s bow, after which Decatur maneuvered to prevent a collision.”

By the way. .midterms soon. .And guess what. .the totally unpolitical Mueller probe will release report in the days ahead. Such coincidence.
Next time sink it; force China to have to deal with it.
Are you mad? There are people on it. That's as close to mass murder as it gets in peace time. Punishment doesn't fit the crime and you, sir, should not run anything in the military ever.
Dear Anon
Mueller will release the report? so what. Either it is full of beans or it is very real? what to fear then?
tin foil hat from Alex Jones?
It's just weird how 36 year old allegations of a crime with no witnesses (other than those denying it) and no evidence occurs to perhaps unseat a political opponent. Wow such coincidence. .
Oh and then by coincidence the Mueller report, which was based on a Democrat funded smear and spy campaign, will be released just with midterms
And little parrot will repeat it all and post hundreds of links
It'll be cute to watch
"Next time sink it." First of all this assumes that the USS Decatur actually can sink the Chinese warship instead of being sunk itself. This is a perilous assumption at best. Also, given the demonstrated lack of ability of the US to understand basic navigation, I think it more likely that the Chinese warship would win such a confrontation and sink the USS Decatur instead. Additionally, in order to keep overworked personnel of all branches operational, morale and training have suffered. Furthermore poor leadership is easily demonstrated across all branches of the military.
So the suggestion is to simply sink the Chinese warship and consequences be damned!! Even if we do "win," this round the Chinese response would be vigorous and would very likely overwhelm our capabilities elsewhere. Now, as stated, the prospect that we can simply sink the Chinese warship is a dubious one at best. While we cannot "know" the outcome of a fight between the ships, I think it most likely the USS Decatur would lose the battle and be at the bottom of the ocean itself. I might even go as far as to say the USS Decatur and its crew are only still alive today because the Chinese commander and warship crew chose to allow them to live.
Maybe I am wrong. My conclusions are drawn based upon what I believe to be a careful analysis of the information that is available. Now, we need to renegotiate the trade arrangements with China and we need to continue the sound progress that has been made with regards to North Korea. We need to ask ourselves "do confrontations like this help us, hurt us, or are neutral to the accomplishment of these goals?" I would suggest that confrontations of this type undermine those goals. As such, the course of action that follows is to work to ensure that we are not in a position where such a confrontation might occur in the future.
Now, if we MUST fight china, then I suppose we must. There better be a VERY GOOD reason for this. After all it makes little sense to fight a war against a major power that we are unlikely to prevail in a conventional fight against and even if we do "win" there seems little upside benefit.
Suggestion: treat major world powers like Russia and China as the equals and in some ways superior powers they are, respect them, and act accordingly. We will NOT be in agreement with them on everything and their likely will be a certain level of tension for the near to mid term. While this approach may not work and we may still need to fight, I think such an approach is more likely to yield positive fruit than the path we are currently on.
The US warship couldn't sink it, tough guy - because unlike the Chinese destroyer, it has no anti-ship missiles. The USN retired then from all destroyers and subs years ago. If there's no US aircraft carrier nearby - and there isn't - the Chinese warship could take down the American ship like a highschool quarterback punching a preschooler. And there is not one thing the US ship could do to stop them.
dear anon alias "smith"
you might find this difficult to believe but law enforcement can find out the truth about things that took place 40 years ago..but note that the FBI under Comey and Mueller is no good but under Trump now they are not allowed to interview the candidate or the accuser! Ah, but if the Dems take over the House, this will be a very alive issue.
Now K. said one thing. The lady another. What better way than a close interview with all connected with each view?
Nah. that is too reasonable so let us instead call names
"It is inconceivable that the FBI could conduct a thorough investigation of Dr. Ford’s allegations without interviewing her, Judge Kavanaugh, or the witnesses we have identified in our letters to you," attorneys Debra Katz and Michael Bromwich wrote to top FBI officials in a letter obtained by POLITICO.
Forget the ship, just invade there islands
Stuff,
I distinctly remember something about this. Unfortunately you are probably correct. Furthermore add in the fact that US forces are poorly led and lack the kinds of training needed for modern combat even if they had the latest and greatest stuff I am not even sure they could prevail.
Turfy77,
Whose going to invade the islands? Are Aussies going to do it? The US doesn't have the capability or manpower to do it. American young men and women are not pawns to be used on your chessboard!!
