WASHINGTON—President Trump is considering high-level staff change in his administration—including discussing potential replacements for White House Chief of Staff John Kelly—as the West Wing makes preparations for the start of the final two years of the president’s first term in office.

The first domino in the latest shake-up is likely to be the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who is a close ally of Mr. Kelly, White House officials said. The president has decided to replace Ms. Nielsen, but hasn’t finalized the timing, White House officials said, in part because there isn’t an obvious candidate to replace her. Changes are also being contemplated for the National Security Council at the urging of First Lady Melania Trump.

Fazman,

For large organizations in America this is generally the case. People cannot be fired on a whim without some kind of payout, unemployment claims, etc. For small companies, the situation is a bit different but the same general rule still applies.

I have not read the article. I will do so time permitting. From the context, it appears that their arose a conflict between this person and POTUS's wife. She appears to work closely with him. In any organization where such a situation exists, it is generally understood that getting crossways in a public manner with the boss's spouse is taboo and such a firing would be expected.

With that said there may well be some kind of payout as well as a tell all book, spots on the speaking circuit, and a huge payday for all of this for this person depending upon the circumstances. Such a person will not have to prove anything of course.

I hate to see this kind of public disagreement, especially by the President's wife. It's messy and does not help the President, who is under enough pressure already. Of course, if Nielsen was in fact a leaker, then it is all good.
