David Axe, Forbes: In 1988, U.S. Army Special Operations Helicopters Slipped Into Central Africa To Snatch A Soviet-Made Hind Gunship
Thirty-two years ago today, U.S. Army commandos from the 160th Special Operations Air Regiment—the famed Nightstalkers—quietly deployed to Chad in Central Africa and, in the dead of night, snatched up a Soviet-made Libyan Mi-25 helicopter so American analysts could study it.
The daring, long-range mission for many years was a secret to almost anyone who wasn’t directly involved. U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command in North Carolina celebrated the mission, code-name Operation Mount Hope III, with official artwork on Thursday.

That CH-47 is no spring chicken. They were being used in Vietnam when B-52's were livening up traffic on the Ho Chi Mihn trail and North Vietnam.
Hinds are flying tanks. Russia's helos are crummy looking but long lived and effective
