Mark Milley is not being consistent. He is courageously criticizing what is past, but not what is happening now. Newsom repeatedly calls California a nation-state. He says he doesn't mean it literally, but if the US got weaker, he would change his tune.

"But none of the governor’s linguistic tics have generated as much debate as his repeated use of the term “nation-state.”"

Does Newsom take in grief from men like Milley?

Depends on what you consider the word "treason" means. I am sure those living in the south in 1860 didn't consider it "treason". Woke nuts viewing history thru their warped 2020 minds say it is.

There is truth in what Davenport says.

The South's beef was not only about slavery. It was with tariffs also. Tariffs favored the north and hurt the south.

The South may have saw The North as saying "My way or the Highway".
