Are We Transitioning From A COVID-19 Recession To A COVID-19 Depression?

George Friedman, Geopolitical Futures: From a COVID-19 Recession to COVID-19 Depression?

It’s been roughly five months since COVID-19 lockdown measures were first put in place. That means that come September, we will have gone two quarters like this with no end in sight.

Masks and social distancing contained the spread of the virus somewhat but could never eliminate it. Yet that is the only containment strategy we had. The only real solution is a vaccine. Many have already claimed that a vaccine is coming soon, but even if comes to market in September, producing, distributing and administering it to billions of people will be a time-consuming and logistically fraught process. Obviously, the number of people vulnerable will decline over time, but it is not clear that social distancing or quarantining will be suspended simply because a vaccine will be available. They will likely continue.

I have argued that unless a solution is found by September, the probability that the recession could turn into a depression would mount. A recession is a normal part of the economy, a primarily financial event that imposes disciplines on an overheated economy. A depression, from a geopolitical standpoint, involves the physical destruction of the economy, something that lays waste to businesses, dislocates labor and vaporizes capital. A recession is the economy cycling. A depression is an economy breaking.

WNU Editor: When the Russian economy collapsed after the breakup of the Soviet Union, I got first hand experience on what a depression is like. To say that it was a horrible experience is an understatement, and it took a decade for Russia to crawl out of it. Will the US and other countries experience the same thing in the coming months? That is why the above post is a sobering and must read commentary. The only difference that I have with the above post is that I believe the crunch time will happen after the US election in November, not before.

Japan and Sweden did not engage in lockdowns.

Countries outside of the haute culture Westerners really have not engaged in killing their citizens for fun, profit, and power.

There is no need to ban HCQ other than to make sure a favored drug company cashes in with a patented replacement.

'Nearly 500 years ago, Swiss physician and chemist Paracelsus expressed the basic principle of toxicology.'

“All things are poison and nothing is without poison; only the dose makes a thing not a poison.”

or
“The dose makes the poison.”

The government study of veterans that showed a slightly higher death rate with HCQ happened because the government doctors overdosed the patients. Moral of the story: don't get a government doctor?

HCQ works, but early n in the infection. Remdesivir works. But to take out HCQ and only use remdesivir makes me wonder about people's motives.

If we have a depression, it will be Democrats fault.

Wrong anon 1:59. The buck stops with the man in charge. The “businessman “ that couldn’t properly manage this great country. Manage the pandemic and we’re not even talking about a depression.

Trump has done what is constitutional, he restricted travel from China to slow or stop the spread of the disease. Demo-Fucks condemned him. Demo-Fucks in NYC and California said go to China town and mingle. Demo-Fucks did not take the disease seriously. Instead they played identity politics and virtue signaled.

State with Republican governors are ding better than states with fucked up Democrat governors. Cuomo (D) is begging people to come back to NYC. NY state will declare bankruptcy.

Demo-craps have said that spreading corona via 'protests' is no big deal and then a foreign troll or liberal cocksucker like yourself says it is Trump's fault. Democrat politicians have joined in these protest like the mayors of Portland and LA.

Democrat governors have forced nursing homes to take COVID patients. These Demoncrat governors have murdered tens of thousands. You going to defend sending infected patients to nursing homes? The liberal argument was that they were not going to discriminate against corona patients. That is a very liberal argument nonsensical but liberal.

You should discriminate corona patients from other people. You should keep them in top notch medical care and away from non-infected people other than medical staff. But a cocksucker like you has to preen and show off your plumage.

The governor (D) of Michigan illegally extended her executive order, which goes against the state constitution of the Michigan.

Meanwhile Georgia, South Dakota, Iowa, and Texas are doing much better than NJ, NY, PA, CA and all the other states run by Democrat nobility.
