Bloomberg: Covid-19 Shaping Up to Be Battle for Years Even With Vaccine
(Bloomberg) -- The coronavirus pandemic is likely to be a challenge for years to come even with a vaccine, according to pharmaceutical and public-health experts.
While a vaccine will provide some measure of protection to societies around the globe, the virus is likely to flare up from time to time and be constantly battled, much like the flu and other pathogens.
“We know this virus is not going away any time soon. It’s established itself and is going to keep on transmitting wherever it’s able to do so,” Soumya Swaminathan, chief scientist for the World Health Organization, at the “How Covid-19 Is Reshaping the Global Healthcare Ecosystem” event hosted by Bloomberg Prognosis. “We know we have to live with this.”
Humanity’s record against viruses is poor. Only one virus has been fully driven out of existence in humans – smallpox. The rest are managed, with brushfires stomped out when they flare up.
“I think what’s realistic to expect is that with a combination of drugs and vaccines we can get to a stable place where the pandemic is manageable,” said Novartis Chief Executive Officer Vas Narasimhan. He called the actual elimination of the virus “unlikely.”

* Lockdown for 2 weeks to flatten the curve so hospitals are not overrun.
* Field hospitals were set up for the end of the world and Field hospitals were taken down after they were erected.
* Then we were told things will get back to normal, when we get a vaccine.
* Now we are told that a vaccine will not help much.
1) It is blazingly obvious that the vaccine won't be a one shot for life with a booster later on. It will be more like a flu shot that will contain the circulating COVID strain 50% of the time. It will be taken yearly.
2) It should be obvious that people keep moving the goal posts.
3) Obese, diabetic, hypertensive people not only do poorly with COVID, they do poorly with influenza and rhino viruses. Viruses are a fact of life. Should we stop everything, because people eat a lot, exercise little and get fat?
4) People are deriving political power from the emergency. They are also using the disease to fight their political enemies. It is almost like witchcraft. Witchcraft in Europe much of the time was not so much about believing in witches as a way to get rid of a neighbor or political enemy.
OCRUMBO used up all the PPE in 2009 and in 7 years never replaced it.
