Is Covid’s Winter Surge Already Here?

NBC: Is Covid’s winter surge already here? Experts warn the pandemic isn’t over

“I don’t think the spike will be as bad as last winter because we have vaccines available and the approval for younger age groups is a big game changer,” one public health expert said.

A new surge of Covid-19 cases is expected to start hitting the United States around Thanksgiving just as the holiday season begins, public health experts are warning.

But with more and more Americans vaccinated, it’s not likely to linger as long or do as much damage because there’s a level of protection this season that wasn’t there last year, they say.

“I don’t think the spike will be as bad as last winter because we have vaccines available and the approval for younger age groups is a big game changer, especially for hospitalizations and death rates,” said Monica Wang, an associate professor of community health sciences at the Boston University School of Public Health. Dr. Sadiya Khan, an epidemiologist at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, agreed.

The economic damage, the deaths. It’s been completely horrific and I would expect that will lead the R&D projects to focus on things we didn’t have today. We didn’t have vaccines that block transmission. We got vaccines that help you with your health, but they only slightly reduce the transmission. We need a new way of doing the vaccines.”

My advice is to take the vaccine, if you are in a high risk group. If you are in a low risk group, take a pass.

Vaccine or no vaccine lose weight, if you are overweight.

Europe as the only region with rising COVID cases, O remember when they were raking us (Americans) over the proverbial coals regarding our response to this.

The numbers are almost as bad as last year when we had no vaccines.

"The numbers are almost as bad as last year when we had no vaccines."

Which means it is taking people who are elderly (the spring has sprung), have comorbidities like Cancer or diabetes, hypertension, obesity or other problems that put them in poor health.

Until we have a cure for old age, cold, flu and corona viruses will kill a significant proportion of elderly like they have from time immemorial.
